Exhaust system warning light "on"

I drive a 2005 touareg with 111,000 miles. We are faithful with ALL maintence.
This morning I woke up to my car covered in ash (due to all the wildfires in the area I live...Idaho) and my exhaust warning light came on. It is steady yellow. Not flashing. My car drives exactly the same. I tried to contact the dealer but have not heard back.
Any suggestions?

This happens to me on and off (also have a V6 2004 T-reg). Sometimes it's a s stupid as my gas cap not being tight enough. Other times, there has been a legit reason it's on, once I wait a few days and take it for a diagnostic. So, my advice is to check the gas cap, wait to see re the fires, and then take it in if it doesn't go away in a few days.

Means a cat issue but you might be able to get car insurance to cover this if it can be proved it was from the Ash(natural disaster).
