Hello I am going to upgrade my Jetta GLI 1986 into a ABA, 16v, I currently have the 2.0 ABA with an JH cylinder head and custom made flat pistons, this is how my engine look right now

And I want to upgrade into this

I still need the autotech adjustable cam gear, and I am going to do the exhaust cam as intake cam modification, Headers and I am looking for a 4K or 2h close ration transmission,
with all this I am hoping to have 150 whp

I will still posting more pictures of the progress

      Any suggestions are appreciated
      Thank you

Iam going to use this 9A piston in my ABA 16v project, and the oil pump is German made and Hi volumen.

If you see something you need from this engine let me know, I'm not going to use any other parts from this engine

Finally I got my new pistons and Hi volumen oil pump

With this 9A pistons I intend to make some ABF clone pistons, using the ABA connecting rod the I am using right now

I am trying to get the highest level of compression

      for better performance

I am only missing the autotech adjustable cam gear and the headers to start the project .

so wait. to do an abf clone you're using 16v 9A pistons with the ABA connecting rods? what compression are you planning on making with this?

Yes basically the original ABF pistons is 82.5mm bore the same as the 9A engine and 159 mm connecting rod the same as the ABA engine, the 9A engine have the 82.5 mm bore and 144 mm connecting rod.

the longer connecting rod will improve the torque and hp.

being very optimistic I hope to get 10.5:1 of compression, not only with this pistons, I am also going to port and polish the cylinder head, and use the exhaust cam as intake cam and the R1 carb

with all this i hoping to get 150 whp

Are you going to use the Digifant II or you going to install a carb ?

I prefer to install a carb because is a lot easier and give you better performance

4seasontuning has Wiseco pistons for this exact engine (ABA/16v) for 600 iirc, they bump compression up to 12.4:1.

Yes, as well as 82.7, 83, 83.5, and 84mm. They have a good price on Ie forged connecting rods too (375 for a set I think).

Are you going to sell that downdraft carb on the 8v head currently installed? I've been considering carbing my counterflow 8v until I piece together an ABA swap. Was planning to go all mechanical, but >200bhp N/A on a 16v would cost ~5k just on the motor.. Put that $ into a custom pieced together turbo kit on said ABA, and there would be a ~50% increase in potential horsepower.

yes actually I have another weber 32/36 DGEV, if you need any parts for your ABA swap let me know I have plenty of ABA parts from mk3 Jetta and Golf in working conditions, actually I am going to do a serpentine belt setup on this ABA 16v.

If you're doing port work it probably doesn't matter, but from the factory the 1.8 heads flow more air.
