Ok, mechanically the timing is perfect. The crank pully and block timing marks are aligned and the cam lock easliy fits is in. new chain kit and the slack is tight in the front and loose in back with the tensionor bolt out. the intermediate shaft gear has slight wear. swapped both crank and cam sensers. still no luck.

    any ideas?

Idles fine, but at low rpms, you notice the difference when acceleration. if I run 'er above 3200 its sounds fine. I might have a problem with the intake manifold shifter rod tough, bad bushings. That is only one symptom, though. After long drives shes raspy.

did have it flashed back to oem.

If it ran fine prior to the downshift mishap, then your timing is incorrect after your repair. You need to go over the DIY and verify your timing marks again. The cam timing can be incorrectly set by 180 degrees via cam lock method. The crank pulley TDC mark and cam lock are not fool proof. The notches on the cam gears need to be on top.
