      2012 VW GTI

I had bought a 2012 VW GTI on april 22, 2012.. to make a long story short, i effed it up and "blew the motor." The dealership I took it to refused to take it apart and forced me to buy a new engine and clutch.. I have a couple questions I need answered if anyone knows.

      1) I will be recieving the blown engine since I bought the car with one and I was forced to buy a second replacement, correct?

      2) How much is the blown engine worth since the ECU registered 9100 rpm? (i only think the head and valves are shot, I belive the bottom end is fine)

      3) would it be more profitable to rebuilt it or sell it blown?

any info or feedback helps!! thanks people!!

9100 rpm? How did you do that? Removed the rev limiter?

It was a miss shift which slipped into 2nd gear WAY easier than it should have!! Anywho, I found out what is wrong with it today from the dealer:
      - "several rocker arms broke"
      - hydra. lifters missing
      - camshafts scored

Now I just need two pieces of information or places to look for them. How much would this be to fix? And what is the cost of a new TSI motor. I am looking to sell it to a mechanic I know but I want to figure out a good selling prices. I was going to do the cost of a new engine minus the cost to repair since he will be able to fix it cheap. It has to be worth something because i need the money to pay for the new engine.

      Thanks for the info

that is awesome. lol i have an 09 and blew my head gasket within 3 years. currently i have 103k on it. i say just build it to save money if they bottom end is still fine. its not that difficult just gotta have the tools. a new motor cost about 8k. unless you can find a used one which may go for 2300.

If you haven't resolved it by now, I'd start by getting the repair quote and deducting it from salvage yard prices and see where you end up.

if you get a new motor from the dealer theres a core charge on it. so you might not get it back
