My low fuel light came on, so I drove another 20 miles or so and stopped for gas. I managed to squeeze 14.65 gallons into the tank, which seems like a lot, since the tank is listed at 14.5 gallons. I realize the tube leading to the tank may not be included in the capacity, but how close was I to running out? I figure I should have had at least a gallon left based on how far I drove with the light on, and the fact that the light should come on with about 2 gallons reserve. Have others managed to put in more fuel than the listed capacity?

you were most likely running on fumes. i noticed in the first week i got my jetta that the low fuel light comes on dangerously close to empty. in my accord i had 50+ miles before i ran out.. in the jetta it was around 20 or so if i remember correctly.

Yea, I am used to my Acura, where the light comes on with about 3 gallons left in the tank. Time to change my behavior, I guess, and head to a station soon after the light comes on, if not before.

I'm now in the habit of filling up before the light comes on lol

Yes, I filled it as high as I could without overflowing. Once I saw that it was near 14.5 gal, I kept going to see how much I could actually fit in the tank and tube.

I must have missed that in the Owner's Manual, what is the reasoning?

From what i've been told the tank is a 40L primary and 10L reserve. and when the light comes on you're on that last 10L

    i could be wrong though.

You mess up your evaporative emissions system and allow raw gas to escape into the atmosphere. Not good for your car or the environment

Pretty sure it is in the owners manual. But if not, it's right on your gas cap. Read above.

The Fuel Pump is surrounded by, and cooled by Fuel.
Run the tank down to the last 1/2 gallon a few times, and you may be looking at a new fuel pump.
When you hit the RED section of the Fuel Gauge, start looking for a GAS Station (Fuel Station for us Diesel Geeks.)

My tank is just over 15 Gallons...

The 27 cents might not harm anything, but what if it does? Is the lack of an even number going to mess up your bank account records that much?
