So I bought my car April. I was supposed to get free Sirius until July 2nd, 2012. When I hit that date the Sirius was disabled (Travel Link and Sat Radio)
Fast Forward to today, my Sat Radio is working fine. I can listen to any channels I want. Travel Link still isn't working.....
I never setup an account or am paying for it.
Is this expected?

That's happened to me before too...and I've called Sirius about other issues and they claim I have more than one account. How, I'm not sure. I don't recall having any clones.

I did have an account on my R32 but I cancelled it........
I'll check that old account and see if its still on...but I doubt it.

Dude, I got my Passat June 19th and 2 weeks ago my trial ended. My car was built in 6/12. So that means I should have had until September until my free trial ran out. I had Sirius in my old car so I just switched it over and try to let stupid **** like this not bother me.
#7
i picked my car up on jan 23 i still have the 3 month trial. never got a bill nothing i have travel link too and i keep on getting updates on my radio too go figure![]()

Should we talking about this on a public forum? I have always found its best to keep these things to your self or they might go away.

I called Sirus to alert them of this thread and people getting free service.......just kidding.
In all seriousness, I think mine went a few weeks past the expected expiration date of my free trial being up. You said yours ended in the beginning of July, so I'm guessing any day now you get a "subscription updated" message on your screen and it'll have the preview channel.
I'll also saw the "subscription updated" message 2-3 times during my free trial period too.

I have 2010 Passat and my Sirius radio is working as well since I think Thursday or Friday. The last subscription has expired back in May I think and my account still shows the radio as 'inactive'. Looks like they are running some sort of free preview. I suspect it will go back to the 'preview' channels in a week or so.
Update: the freebie is gone as of 5:26 PM today.

had mine ...ended today. Ended abruptly. Preview version is now on--which is terrible. I don't think I can live without it.

I tried this after reading this thread. Mine has been up for a while but it worked perfectly for a day and then the next day switched back after a while. I'm pretty sure they do this to get ou into it so as soon as youre like ohhh this is cool it goes away and then you want it and might subscribe. its a good trick.

Can you get Travelink if you dont have a Nav system?
#18
I got a yellow-colored offer from Sirius/XM today:6 months for only$4.99/month.
#19
That is a decent deal but look at the terms. They have a $15 activation and bunch of fees/taxes. So that could be as high $60 for 6 months or $120 a year which is probably not the best deal they offer.
To everyone with the trial. Let it expire, about a week later you will get a email or letter for half off 12 months and no activation fee. After fees/taxes it comes out to almost exactly $100. This is the best deal I have seen for at least the last couple of years.
Cheers!![]()

Our son had Sirius on his Hyundai.....and it would go on for short periods from time to time after the initial trial period and shutoff. I think it's an attempt by Sirius to get subscriptions.

I don't think it's a trick to get subscribers. I believe it's just a random malfunction that they tolerate. This happened to me too but when I did a soft reset of the radio it went away and hasn't come back.
They only blib the activation and deactivation signal for a short time, like a week or so, to avoid using up bandwidth. If you disconnect the sat radio ant for a week after subscription ends you can get a few extra days before it catches a deactivation signal.
My best guess is that the signal gets messed up and your radio is accidentally activated. The correct deactivation signal isn't sent so it stays like that until it catches another bad signal or they are doing a "sweep" of deactivated units. I'm sure it also sometimes happens with active subscribers but in that case the person notices and it's fixed right away.
If you get a radio from a salvage yard that came from an untitled demo car, the account is still on an "unregistered" status and it'll stay like that for a while....I know because that also happened to me on another unit. When I called to see if it was still on trial, they immediately deactivated it.
If I were you I'd leave it be.

As of today, I'm still getting free service. My travel link doesn't work, but I get every Sat Radio channel they have.
I'm guessing this is a glitch, so I'll enjoy it while I can :-)

After this long I'd be checking the CC statement for the card used on your old account. Wouldn't put it past Sirius/XM to have found your info combined them and just start charging you.

they also offer 77.00/a year when you do get canceled i've been doing that for 2 years now
also 6 months for 25.00![]()

Because the 77 for a year or 25 for 6 months isn't the real cost. There is taxes and fees they always like to add. These offers usually only come around after disconnection too. One of their best fees is $15 to reconnect. The fees etc change with the offers. In the last three years the yearly deal has been better because they waive the reconnect fee.
So as I stated above, after fees and taxes the 77 yearly is $100 for a year. The six month is 25 plus 15 each time, so 80 plus taxes and anything else they add. This usually works out at $110 a year.
I have not seen comparable deals for 2 or 3 years in a long time.
Plus I have been successful as have others at getting the same total cost a year at the end of every year simply by asking to be connected to the disconnect service line BEFORE you yearly subscription is up.
Very important to do it before because otherwise they auto bill at $200 or more a year. And you agree to that autobill when you sign up so you can't get out of it until another year. Cell phone reminders are VERY good to remember this. I have a yearly reminder set to mine.![]()

I have never once in idk 4-5 years paid a reconnect fee, but yes taxes are charged. my 77 was more like 82.15 and the 25 I just paid for my mk6 was more like 28.98..
absolutly agree with the auto bill thing but you can also request that you be placed on an invoice only plan and they won't auto bill you.
The best deal was when they offered the Lifetime. 500.00 one time fee and you could swap to other radios free 2x then it was a 15 fee after that. Hell after 3 years I sold mine to a buddy at work and it still works like a champ.![]()

Thanks for the info guys! I was not aware of the stipulations that these plans entailed. Invoice only or cell phone notification seems like a great solution!

Service finally quit this morning. :-( So I guess I was getting a month-two months for free.
#33
Just an hour ago I renewed my subscription at their promotional $24.99 for 6 months. The only added fee was something called "Radio Service Fee" in the amount of $2.45. No other taxes or fees and the reconnection fee was waived as well. This is a second time I am taking advantage of this offer: order for 6 months, call to cancel before automatic renewal at full rate (about $98 or so, I think), and then re-order again at the promotional rate. No clue why one would ever take advantage of the 'discounted' $77 per year. The only 'negative' of my strategy is some interruption in service (two, three weeks, tops - the 'We Miss You" emails start coming pretty quickly)
