I'm coming out as a Miata owner. I joined the cult on Saturday...after I said I would never own one.
I STAND CORRECTED
What a raw car. I was convinced I needed a Boxster to have a more "pure" motoring experience. I'm wrong. Terribly wrong. I'm sorry Miata Gods.
I traded for a '90 in Classic Red, manual, 130K, newer top, COLD AC, stack of service records from the last several years totaling over $20K. Yes, I said over $20K. This car was ridiculously maintained by a fanatical owner. New Koni's installed a month ago. The bad: Hail damage on hood and trunk from a recent storm in our region. Bumper needs a buff, and one headlight door. He traded after a body shop quoted him $7700 to fix the hood/trunk and to repaint the car...
He traded it for a '99 Miata I had at my dealership.
I paid $500.00...and yes, I'm keeping this one!

Maaco Paint it + new wheels = FUN?
Also, Very racist thread tittle.

It may half of auction prices, but retail value for a car in that mechanical condition would be about $3500-4000 here.
Nice score for sure.

Looks like a solid base to start withEven the tip of the nose is not crushed in
First and foremost, get all the bracing that's found on the 1.8 models.
How's the condition of the top? There's a ton of aftermarket tops available. You can even get a expensive lookin' cloth top. But whatever material you choose, pick a no-zip ,glass window version.

Total steal on the price.
#13
for $500... **** id almost consider a miata too.. maybe.
#15
$500? That's cheaper than tires for my S2000.
Congrats on the purscase!
#16
For $500 I would consider one too.

My '99 Miata was still the most fun car I have ever owned, even though it was one of the slowest in a straight line.

Nose crush? Bracing?
What is all that mean?
I'm totally new to Miata's.
The top is in great shape and was replaced a few years ago. Why pick the no zip version?
Paint is being rubbed.
What's a foamectomy? I fit pretty well at 6'2" and 230
I'm in KY
Seinfeld joke made me laugh.
I think I'm gonna keep this one for awhile. I always wanted one of these, but didn't spend the money. I was demoing a NB and hated it...like the NA much better. If you're in the Miata market, send me a PM and I'll find you one for cheap money.
I done did, girlfriend! This bitch looks fierce in leopard print
Keeping OE paint, wheel shopping, and roll bar too.
I want to maybe do some SCCA racing.
Where is the TCL of Miata's?![]()

actually using the top - ie taking it up and down - completely ruins the back plastic window after a while and you end up not being able to see out the back of the car.
i know some miata folks run cut pool noodles that they stuff into the plastic rear window as its being folded down to prevent it rubbing on itself.
pretty lame really... i could definitely see the advantage to a glass rear window, though ive never used a miata with one, only the plastic ones

miata.net and turbomiata.net were the two forums i remember from my brief foray into these cars...
one of them is mostly tech geeks with actual wrench turning knowledge and the other one was just stance dorks who know what wheels fit when they were lowered to scraping height. but both should have good maintenance info.

I have a no zip glass window, replaced a zip plastic one. My glass window is really small. At 6'1", it is pretty much useless going down the road. And I really miss the zip the window down, and cruise with the top up. I would try to get a zip glass window top, if you are gonna do a new top.
My dirty miata.

Sweet! There is hope for me owning one then!! I come across cheap ones all the time, but am just too cramped to enjoy driving them.![]()

You're officially stupid too, to stereotype and attach the Miata to gay people.![]()

I have a zipper/glass rear window. Love it. My parts car has a no-zip glass window and I really don't get the point.
