I recently picked up a fairly heavy duty lathe after looking for some time. I am stripping is down and refinishing.

Other than bushings and what not, there is really only one part that is even close to borderline. I would like to change it if I could, but am in no way equipped to cut spur gears. I briefly looked at off the shelf stuff and I could probably go that route, but wanted to get an idea of what it would cost for someone to whip one up.

The Spur Gear and shaft are not large. They are from the apron feed (main pinion). Mating Rack gear strip is on the side of the bed to give you an idea as to what it is used for. It is a 20t ~1.25" diam spur on about a 3/8 x 4" shaft, similar to the one pictured below.

This pic came from this thread -> http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=2624.0 which ironically is the exact same lathe. Unfortunately he is in the UK where the lathes were made.

If you want to see some amazing machine work that thread is worth the clicks...

    Thanks,
    Shawn

Noting but crickets up in here. LOL

Appears to be a 20T Spur Gear with a 20 D.P. and a 14.5 Pressure angle. Pretty standard spur gear.

ok, I have some lines on some options, but none local yet. I tend to trust members of the community, which is why I thought I would try here First.

Thats a hell of a shop in that link, and some impressive skills! I wish I had access to that sort of stuff...
Throw an Audi engineer down a hole with a ladder and he will fashion a shovel from it and tunnel his way out

I am with you all the way. After looking though his works, I can no longer sleep at night as the wheels are turning and the madness setting in. Seriously, that guy is totally insane adn his tool set is nothing short of heaven!

It is amazing when you really look with open eyes into something out of your niche and into someone else's...

Here is another from that guy that I am sure you will appreciate -> http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=6037.0

If you are anywhere near that guy you need to buy him loads of pints in the hopes he will unlock the secrets to the missing crypt... LOL
