Finally made it. Thanks for the recommendations.

I have my 07 rabbit loaded up on a transport ready to start the 18 some hour trip from the Chicago area. Uhaul is almost ready to go.
QUESTION: I need a reliable shop to install my new low comp pistons and connecting rods for me. Rebalance and everything. sticking with the stock head until I finish my turbo install. Any suggestions based on experience??

I would suggest introducing yourself, and maybe a little differently, on dfw euros and European AG. Hopefully you can get the information you are looking for on those boards.
Austin is the best city to move to in Texas, however we don't have the largest VAG scene here nor are there really any of us digging into our engines. We are a pretty tight knit group though and tend to hang out at the first drop of a hat, especially on Tuesdays.
It wouldn't have hurt to post in the Austin GTG thread either. The South forum is slow as it is, at least posting up in a thread with almost 1000 pages has a better possibility of netting a response.
Welcome to Austin.

Marble, let's be honest - the Austin VAG Crew isn't the friendliest or welcoming group out there. I have posted question a couple of times in the Austin GTG thread and was never responded to also I don't have time and I am too old to be hanging out at a bar on Tuesday nights.
Like someone once said - It is what it is....
Aquino - hope you got my PM and A/C in your ride.

I appreciate the PM. I don't really believe in putting myself out on the internet. I'd rather introduce myself in person. It's sad a group of people would be standoffish where networking would be a benefit. You never know who's asking for information, or what they may contribute.

I don't even recognize your screen name, it's a tad bit annoying when people only want to "hang out" or "talk" when they need something. Also, sometimes the pages in the Austin GTG thread move pretty quickly. There are a couple of knowledgeable guys in that thread, or at least may be able to point you in the right direction. Do they post all the time? No. So when they do check the thread, I'm sure they don't read what's been going on the last "x" amount of pages they missed.
If you "don't have time for us" then why expect any help/ time from us? Because we own VWs? There's a little more to it then that, that's just a coincidence.
It's just weekly, and BTW we're all pretty "old." I'm 34, with a 40+ hour/ week job, a wife, 2 dogs, but I make the time to hang with friends and make new ones. Hanging out is what makes it a community, the internet helps extend the community during the times we aren't hanging out. Also we do more than just hang out at a bar, in which you make it sound like a negative thing. There's an outside area to hang out, not all of us drink, and it's quality time. Some stay for a few minutes, others stay for hours.
Putting yourself out on the internet? It's not like we're going to ask "a/s/l." This isn't an AOL Chat Room.
So did you come meet any of us Tuesday?
Again, you posted in the South Region, check the movement in here. There really isn't any, and if people are like me, they go to their subscribed threads versus looking in the South Region, I just happen to check it the other day and provided my response. You were looking for help in Austin and you didn't post in the Austin thread. Just doesn't make sense.
Ever think that maybe none of us know the answer you're looking for? Would you rather the lot of us all respond, quoting your question, saying "I don't know?" Didn't I already explain that there aren't really any of us digging into our engines? So what do you expect?
This is the most ridiculous thing in this thread, for now. Are you really holding this above people? You're saying that, "Since nobody helped me (or rather nobody could help you) with my issue, everyone else can 'take a hike' if I can help." Very childish.
FWIW, this is the internet, make some time to hang out and introduce yourselves.

I was curious about the question or questions you posted in the Austin GTG thread, and unless you deleted your posts, you have yet to post in the Austin GTG thread.
So, let's be honest.
And aquino still hasn't posted his question up in the Austin GTG thread even though it was mentioned, twice before.
Help yourselves out and give it a shot.

Met a local with his own shop in person and stayed to chat it up. He seems real cool and down to earth. Dropping the rabbit off tomorrow. I've only been in Texas a few days and am looking forward to showing up on one of the coming Tuesday nights. I don't write anyone off, so when I show up on a bicycle don't be mean.![]()

Oh, not fair! That last one wasn't even a VW guy!
So, one guy talking crap on your car and another guy not searching for you at a show?
I was a new guy just a year ago. I went back and looked at my first posts.Ah, memories...
My first post in the Austin GTG thread
The moment I got hooked
Only my 5th post in the Austin GTG thread
You guys ARE a bunch of D!CKS! F*ck you guys!
I can't quote how many times those guys have hooked me up with parts or helped me install stuff or answered my stupid questions. It's a good group of people. It takes time and thick skin to get to know all the personalities. Just like everything else.

If you still looking for a shop.....
Motormania - out by the lake off 620 - very good and trust worthy
Underground VW - Had them fix my oil pan and told me my car was too low.
Kenny Hill Autowerks - Just dropped my car off this morning to fix the fuse box on the battery.
Just saw a place called Vee Dub but never been there.
Welcome to Austin and hope that helps. Outside of cars you should check out Alamo Draft house, Chuys, Home Slice, Amys Ice cream and Iron Works BBQ.

I appreciate the input and the time it took. I just surrendered my IN license and am waiting for my TX license in the mail. Until then I'm staying home a bit. Thanks![]()
