Thread: 2013 Tiguan changes

  1. 07-23-2012 07:41 PM #36
Getting out of a lease is always possible.....if you leased from VW credit, you can possibly make a deal by trading against another VW and leasing it as well; there will be some costs but depending on how much you want out it can be worth it. They won't "pay it off" but they can transfer financing....

You don't owe anyone the residual unless you want to keep the car at the end of the lease....since you are trying to get out of the lease clearly that isn't the case.

Other options are selling your lease to someone else - if you can find someone to take on the payments and your leasing company approves, you can transfer the car and payments to them. Sure, you end up with nothing in hand but you aren't out a lot of money either. There a plenty of places that help people get out of leases they no longer want.

I would ask them to flash the update again. You are the only one who is complaining that it doesn't improve drivebility. Is there a way for them to flash it back to the lower shifting point?

I would first try to make it work for you. If that doesn't help, drive it to the end of lease and buy it out and then sell it yourself.

    Ahem, Thank You Jayhawker.

Ladies and gentleman, your attention please, transmission related material is strictly prohibited in this thread. Please concentrate on how much you are missing RVC, power seat and hill hold. Thank You for your cooperation.

We have the 2012 SEL 4mo. The only thing I really would've liked would be the RVC. To get the power passenger seat, I think you'd need to give up the fold flat, which is a no go for us. The Tig is significantly smaller than the Touareg it replaced. the fold flat seat makes up for the loss in length quite a bit when lugging long cargo around.

But the RVC should be a mandatory feature on all mid-size and larger cars and SUVS IMO, as a safety feature.

I assume the price went up for the new MY?

I would love to have a RVC, in fact, the other vehicles I was considering all had RVCs. That being said, the Tig extends very little past the rear window so I just look behind me before I jump into the car and know I can back up almost to the window. I know that doesn't let you know if a kid ran up behind you, so I'll probably install backup sensors and call it good.

Too bad VW didn't add the power lift gate for the higher trims.

What am I missing here? When I was shopping for a Tig last Feb every 2012 SEL I looked at had the Rear View Camera. Was it excluded on some 2012 SEL's, or am I misinterpreting and you're restating that the RVC is not available on 2013's? And secondly, I do NOT have a power passenger seat on my 2012 SEL, and my passenger side rear seat does NOT fold flat, even with the headrest bent forward. Maybe I need a different definition of "flat" ?

    Yes.

The 2012 SEL had 3 trim levels:

4motion (with RNS315 and no RVC)
FWD with premium nav (and RVC)
4 motion with premium nav (and RVC) and Dynaudio

At the time we ordered our SEL in November 2011, they were in the middle of the 4mo and RVC shortage. RVC was not offered at all with the RNS510. Instead, they discounted the sticker price of the premium nav by a couple hundred dollars. The difference between the base 4 motion and the 4mo with prem nav and DA was $4000 and not worth it, especially with no RVC, so we went with the base 4motion. By the time they delivered it in February, the shortages were over and they were starting to include RVC with the RNS510 again.

I'm not sure why your seat doesn't fold flat. Our front passenger seat has a manual recline lever. You can tilt the seat all the way forward (of course the seat has to be pushed back enough for the headrest to clear the console), so that it folds almost completely flat.

My only regret about the base SEL was that it didn't come with the RVC which has been remedied with the 2013. I don't care for the big NAV and the DA, while nice (I have it in my Golf), wasn't worth thousands of dollars when the primary driver is my hearing-aid wearing mother. So no longer having those in the 2013 wouldn't have concerned me, but I guess I could always use some of the money saved with the 2012 to retrofit a RVC.

I see. In San Diego all 4MO variations were totally unavailable (the nearest one in the Feb time frame when i got mine was Seattle), so I had ..err.. "limited options". Thanks for the clarification.

SE trim receives a partial power passenger seat.
SEL trim has a power passenger seat and a rearview camera

Anyone else is pissed ? I would love to have a hill hold and power passenger seat. This is plain cold, why in the hell would they not include all that with the 2012 face lift???

Why would any car manufacture have a vehicle with a $40,000 msrp and not have power passenger seats? This has bothered me for years.

And this powered passenger seat would get "used" how many times ????? Probably once to set it where it will be for its life I suspect. Why would you spend money on a useless piece of kit, as much use as a chocolate teapot in my view, but hey if you want to pay extra for it go right ahead, be my guest !!

    Cheers

Oh, also a powered seat wouldn't be able to be folded flat forward the way mine can, so it would be "worse" than useless as I LOVE the extended carry area.

My passenger seat was thrashed pretty badly this weekend by someone who was unfamiliar with the mechanics of it. People who are unfamiliar with the VW manual seats just seem to have a problem with adjusting those things unless you walk them through it.

    So annoying.

There is no actual hill-hold (button) control in 2013. I checked at my dealer. It is something that is automatic with the electronics. If you go to some spec sheet online, you will find that the 2012 also had it!

  16. 08-04-2012 11:23 AM #51
Here a video to prove you wrong- the 2013 tiguan does NOT have a hill-hold button. Look at this video at the .11 time.

I looked at specs and it says the 2012 and 2013 auto hold is put on by electronics (no button).

"Hill Hold" does not have a specific button, it is automatically engaged whey you're on uphill. Only "Auto Hold" has a button (see post #18 for description). 2012 did not come with hill hold, so far 2012 is the only year that did NOT have hill hold or auto hold

The one thing I didn't know was that the lower models now have dual auto climate control. That was the one big reason I bought an SEL. After having it on my Audi for the last 12 years, I just didn't want to do without. Boy, I could have saved some cash had I waited for the 2013's.

According to the VW.com website, Pepper Grey and Red are no longer an option. Is this just temp?
I'm in the market for a 2013 Tiguan SEL and was gravitating towards a Pepper Grey.

Stop on a hill let off the gas the vehicle stays put for a few seconds and if you don't hit the gas after about 5 seconds then the car will roll back, there are no buttons for this it's a built in safety feature

Yeah, what's the deal? I was looking at wild cherry, now it's basically white (had two white ones) or black (had three blackcars, hassle to keep clean).

    No more dynaaudio?

No more RNS510 / Dynaudio for sure.

Not sure if this applies to Canada also.
They've done studies you know. 60% of the time... it works every time.

I visited the VW site last night and played with the 'Build You Own' tool. I speced out a fully loaded 2013 SEL 4MO and was surprised to see the MRSP was about $2K less than our fully loaded 2012 SEL 4Mo with Prem Nav and DA. I'm wondering if VW was feeling the pressure that they had the Tiguan overpriced and tweaked the feature set to get it more in line.

I have a 2013 US SE model. It does not seem to have hill hold enabled. The sticker says it does. The manual says it is automatic and has 3 criteria to activate it, but I stop on a hill and it rolls backward immediately. If I had it, I might disable it. But it does not seem to be there in my case.

So, are you happy with your 2013? Any buyer's remorse? I keep debating between the 2013 SE 4MO or to save about 6K on a 2010. I'm leaning towards the '13. I don't think I can wait for the Tdi version.

By the way, I've seen Pepper Gray '13's here in Denver even though they're not shown on the VW website (unless updated) Also, out here, the passenger seats are not power tilt and most all of the SE's come with dual-auto climate control. Yet another sweet feature that's swaying me to go new.

I love my 13 tig. No issues and I am happy without hill hold, although curious why it doesn't work when it should.

I thought long about a used 12, then someone else claimed it while I was thinking. I should have grabbed it and saved several $k. Oh well new smell is nice too.

I just traded a 2010 JSW SE with Pano roof for a 2013 Tigun S. I am very pleased so far. I needed something easier to get in and out of(many back surgeries) and I needed more rear seat legroom for my growing daughter. I enjoy having the 200hp over the 170hp in the JSW. This is my 5th new VW from the same dealership. I have always been very pleased with VW. My wife really wanted the SE or the SEL to get the two tone interior but after just a few days of driving she is now very pleased and comfortable in the black interior.

I can understand your delight. Prior to my Jetta, I had the Rabbit with same 170hp NA engine. No matter what mods I made, the 2.5 was still the weak link in an otherwise solid car. I don't know if I could ever go back to a non-turbo engine. I'm looking fwd to having more room to haul my stuff, 4motion for the snow and the lighter sandstone interior. Very glad to hear that you're happy. Gives me more reassurance

Could be. Just about every professional review of the Tiguan has harped on the price. Even with a $2k reduction they are still overpriced compared to the competition though. And when you look at how quickly these things depreciate...yikes.
