2003 GLI shifter "issue"

I just bought an 03 VR6 GLI in PG.. It has a neuspeed short shifter on it..

The "issue" I have is that the car has no reverse lock-out.. So, it goes right by first and can go into reverse without having to depress the shift knob down..

Just wondering if any of you have had this happen to your cars?

Figured out the problem.. Shifter was stuck in the down position.. put some vise-grips on the metal shift lever and pulled in up a bit...

It's gonna take some time before it goes all the way back up on its own.. But should be good from here on out..
