I would definitely take it to the dealer. No way you should be getting that bad of mileage.
I would say I am a spirited driver, and have maybe a 60/40 split in highway/city driving... I usually get 425-475 miles a tank (when warning light comes on).

Btw, an update: I changed the oil at dealership last week; at refill over the weekend, the gauge estimated a range of 220 miles, meaning more or less the same thing. Service advisor has advised I take the vehicle back in to the dealership to get the engine checked again.

Been following your post. A few observations. The last 2-3 tanks I want thru we're in the city. I filled up the other day before a highway trip. Computer told me range of 370 at full tank. When I filled up next day, I had put 416 miles on it, and computer range said 80 til empty. Computer read 26.5 mpg, I calculated manually about 25.7 mpg (drove 85, ac blasting since is was 104 those days). After fill up, computer said range was 510 miles to empty. I'm guessing this think is some what intuitive? Have you checked your range after a longer trip? Either way, you still seem to be getting crap mpg
Btw, before trip, I filled up w 89 octane w corn crap filler (ethanol) which gives crap mpg
Good luck

2010 V46 4Motion here. Just hit 40K miles on it. Last tank I got 410 miles on a full tank of regular 87 Octane. Lots of traffic, stop and go, construction, etc. Usually drive at about 75mph - 78mph on highway with cruise control on and a/c blasting.

I don't know about anyone else, but my average consumption screen seems to reset after each "trip". Is that the way it should be or is there a way for it to show my overall average until i manually reset after each tank? And no, I'm not referring to the consumption screen that shows live consumption
Taking an 800 mile round trip to Lake Placid on Sunday, so I'll see what kind of mileage I can get on an almost all highway trip.
When I've done manual MPG calculations, I usually end up averaging 26-27mpg, which is a pleasant sight compared to my 11mpg magnum.
#45
There are three MPG consumption displays. The first is the immediate MPG while you are driving.....not very helpful in my opinion but it is good to see what you are getting on the freeway at that moment. Arrow down and there is consumption 1 which is the trip average consumption that gets reset before each trip. Hit the right center button on the steering wheel and it displays consumption 2 which is the average consumption until you reset it. I use this one for the average per tank. To reset this just hold down that same center button on the right hand side of the steering wheel. This reset technique also works for consumption 1 as well.
I hope this helps.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I keep meaning to go through the manual, but I figured it may not be the best source for information depending on the options your car has. I've found that the manual will omit some things and include others that aren't relevant to my car's trim level.

2013 VR6 4motion Executive...
So far in first 3 months, I've been averaging about 300-330 per tank before fillup, and fillups are usually 15.5-16 gallons, so there's still a little left to go in the tank when I fill up. Mostly commuting to and from work 5-days-a-week...24 miles each way, 4 miles highway, 20 miles city. City typically 20-22 stoplights, speeds of 40-50...highway speeds 80-90ish. Weekends a hundred or so miles casual cruising/city miles.
I've taken one extended highway trip so far, with about 420 miles before fillup...fillup roughly 16.5 gallons...trip indicated average 26MPG, which included city driving for 5 days in between two 170 mile highway drives.
Mileage has been better so far than on my 2007 Passat Wagon VR6 4motion, despite being the same powertrain and 4-motion system.

So, after a 2nd service appointment, no fix for this issue yet. According to service advisor, the diagnostic fault finder is not reporting any fault, fuel level sensor seems ok, plugs not soaked, etc...inother words the techs are stumped. He is sending a report to VWoA, hoping to get some feedback next week and then determine next steps. Thus, the waiting game continues.
This is from moments ago....

I just took a freeway trip and got 40 MPG from Orcas Island to Bellevue, WA. doing nearly 80 MPH most of the time and 13 knots for some.....It kind of helps the old MPG when a ferry does all the work. I did receive several more compliments while loading though. People really comment positively about the look of a Candy White CC. This is a first for all the cars I have owned over the years.
OK, I guess it only fair to drop the miles on water, so really 34 MPG. To the original OP. Something must be wrong with your CC or you have one heck of a lead foot. 17 MPG is lower than anyone else I have heard ever getting for even heavy city miles. I suppose if you drive in Manhatten all day or downtown San Franciscobut even I get 22 MPG on slow back roads with lights to and from work.
#51
No lead foot here, really. Even at that, you can still pull reasonable MPGs. My commute is mostly city driving weekly. The key here is that the computer-reported mile range is waaaayy offff; and this is 'new' as in a recent development. Either the ECU is constrained - by some yet-to-be-diagnosed fault - to force inefficient fuel consumption or something else is going on. Btw, they did check the cat converter, O2 sensors, no issue (found). Either way, I will be evaluating my options if they don't fix this by the 3rd visit.

My last tank I went 499.3 miles before the light came on while pulling into the gas station. Took 17.3 gallons of 93 octane. Averaged about 28.9 mpg with 90/10 Hwy/City mix with moderate to aggressive driving. On trips to work in the am (45 miles hwy/77mph) I have seen averages as good as 34mpg. The car is completely stock. I'm hoping that with the addition of an intake, tune and drop I can get above 36. I'm a little surprised to see people putting less than premium fuel in their cars. I'm new to the 2.0t and I'm sure it can take mid-grade but runs more efficiently on premium. But if you are putting less than 91 in your 3.6 you are. With 12.5:1 compression you are starving that thing. My 06 Passat 3.6 got 24-26mpg on average with 91.

I took my 2010 2.0T DSG on a road trip last weekend and averaged 33.6 and right about 550 miles when the gas light came on. 93 ocatane.
#55
The non-turbo 2010 vr6 engine, as written in the book, states it will take anywhere from 89 - 93 octane.
A tubo'd engine, I could definately see a greater need to use a higher octane. Are the crank, rods and pistons forged on the T? Or are they just cast? I don't believe the VR6 has any forged engine components. With 12.5:1 compression.... anyone running over stock specs I would HOPE would have studded their head.
#56
I made my statement because in your post you said you filled up with 87. An engine such as the VR6, is designed to actually take advantage of 91 Octane and will yield more power than one that is optimized for 87 Octane. If your engine is best on 91, it might run on 87 just fine, while yielding slightly less power and mileage. It might not detonate or ping but it isn't taking full advantage of it's potential due to the timing adjustments made by the computer. I'm not trying to start a post war or flame you. To each his own. Just some food for thought. Give it a try and see if your milage changes.

I currently have 160,000 km on my 09 3.6L 4Mot and have been avaraging about 8.7 - 9.0 per/100KM (26-27 MPG) my driving is about 60% highway, my dad has 08 TDI Passat Wagon and he avaerages about 5.3 per/100KM (44MPG) and his drive is about 30% highway.
To bad CC is not offered in TDI in Canada!!!

ADennis, another KC guy?
I just took a. 2 day road trip, ran 85% hway, at 80mph. Got 500 miles out of a tank, at 28.4mpg (calculated) w a/c the whole way. This is better mpg than I have been getting, but I filled up on 91 oct with NO ethanol. I can live with this mpg, I drive w a slightly heavy foot. I still don't know how you guys get 34 mpgOP, have you taken her on a highway trip? I feel for you, but think it is just your city driving that is killing you, but those numbers are still pretty pathetic

As for updates, dealership says they have read all TSBs and none relating to the issue with my CC. As of yesterday, service advisor is contacting VW to get a 2nd opinion/on how to address this. Fingers crossed.
I will take it for a highway trip on a full tank this weekend and see how the mpgs turn out.

I have a 2.0TDI 140Bhp and have done around 4000 miles so far. The best I have got on a 100 mile trip was 74MPG and it was the hardest 100 miles I have ever done. As I was full of fuel the tank monitor went over 1000 miles remaining although after that trip I drove normally and ended up around 650 out of that tank. I struggle to get under 40Mpg over a 100 mile trip and I do push it. On average I am 50-55 on a reasonable run.
Got to say not a bad all rounder.

If you are putting in around 17 gallons of gas and only getting 220 miles out of the tank, there is something seriously wrong. That calculates out to 12.9 mpg. Aside from what the computer says you have range of on mileage, as long as your odometer is working properly, you can calculate gas mileage much more accurately than the computer states. In order to get 12.9 mpg, you would have to be doing some serious stop and go driving, with lots of idling.
On highway driving, I can easily get 31-32 mpg calculated by miles/gallons. The computer usually states like 34-36 mpg though which is high. Even 100% city driving, I will be in the low 20's.

UPDATE...
I turned in the CC yesterday for VW techs to diagnose. It's confirmed that it has a faulty Fuel Sending Unit; part already on order, so hopefully getting it back by next week, fixed! (Fingers crossed).
Btw, this was the range reading after I filled up yesterday before dropping it off. Definitely NOT right. Anyone else ever had to replace an FSU? And at how many miles?

Hopefully that will fix your problem. As an update, I am up to tank number 5 now the overall average is 26.3 MPG which is what it is rated at for combined mileage. Not too shabby considering I do not drive as slow as the EPA does for their test!
It is still 2 MPG under my 3 yr average for my GTI, but considering the extra weight and the 6M that has taller gears (wish it had the GTI ratios like it is advertised to have), I cant complain.
