Am I wrong for wanting my money back

So I purchased from pretty known seller on here and feel like I got in the A$$ without even a courtesy reach around. Here are the details. Maybe Im wrong but don't feel that I am.


So I bought a gauge cluster from him. When I got it I didn't notice any of the problems with it at first, until I took it out and went to install it. Let me explain

1. The clear plastic front has two big scratches in it. They distort the view of the instruments.

2. The bottom tab was completely snapped off. So now it doesnt install flush at all . It sits crooked.

3. I asked if it was for a manual and told yes, but of course its for a automatic. Yea an auto will work in a manual car. I understand that. But Im trying to build a factory correct vehicle. He should have mentioned this when I asked if it would work for a manual.

4. So at first he said Ill give you your money back, but dont go changing parts cause Ill know if you opened it. Getting all defensive. Now he is saying Im not going to give you a refund cause I probably changed parts or something.

Look Oberol_FL all I want is what I paid for. If you have another cluster with close to same mileage that isn't all beat up then great send it to me. If you don't give my money back, so I can purchase this from someone else. I havent done anything to it, I just want what I was told I was getting and nothing else.

Im not trying to come onto this forum to talk smack but when I sell stuff to people I tell them upfront what they are getting. People don't like surprises. The money isn't the issue as much as the principal. Make it right and lets get past this

Airing it out on the forums is probably a mistake. You're an adult, contact the seller & open a dispute with Paypal if you can't work it out.

Surprised to hear this because he's a classifieds advertiser and sells parts by the buttload. These threads are usually locked because there's two sides to every story but if what you're saying is true, I feel you should get a refund or acceptable replacement. And I doubt you would come on here to be untruthful. Good luck.

Publically embarass the other party into doing the right thing that they should have done to begin with? I dunno- it seems to get results. I wish people had posted up what a shady character I got screwed over by, before I dealt with him. It would have saved me some hassle.

I've had a lot of experience with the seller and have never had any issues.

How bad are the scratches on the cluster?

They are bad enough that it makes it not worth half what I paid for it. I expect a 20 year old part to be somewhat used. But they are big enough that looking at from a straight on perpespective its way obvious and even makes me disappointed.

if you have your old cluster (and you didn't swap to a 3.5 or something) you can pretty easily just swap your old front onto the cluster base. It will cover up the automatic panel + have less scratching.

i hate to be negative, but part of dealing on vwvortex is getting parts that aren't exactly as described. i agree that classified advertisers should be held to a higher degree than anyone who creates a thread but, it's part of the learning experience of dealing with used parts.

I hope ya learn a bit and are able to swap the front of your old cluster to make it work for you.

You certainly aren't the only one he's pulled this crap on; that's for sure.
Everyone he does this too seems to have low post counts. He's smart enough not to send junk to people that have built a reputation already.
