Just bought an APR K04 kit for my 2010 4MO. Just wondering if anyone else has this setup? I'm going to be running it with stock intake (diffuser grille removed and K&N panel filter) and stock downpipe. Just want to keep things 100% OEM looking/sounding. With the detuned K04 file I'm hoping to be making around 320/340 at the wheels.

I've got the wife approval for a KO4 on the 2012 4mo, running just an APR stage 1 91 octane right now.

I'm hesitating on pulling the trigger because here in utah we generally can't get 93 octane and lack of 4mo downpipe means that the two largest improvements to be had with the K04 aren't possible for me. Intercooler probably isn't in the cards for me as I'm not racing it. Carbonio intake, downpipe, 93 octane seems like the minimum I'd want to do along with the K04 but am out of luck on 2/3 of those.

Are you really leaving everything stock and just putting the bigger blower on?

Yes, I'm told by a few people who have run GTI's and A3s with stock DP that there isn't a whole lot of gain with the downpipe. An intake is a tiny gain for sure, but may help a bit.

Thats a good datapoint to have, thanks! Based on APR's dyno charts it looks like intake/downpipe do more for allowing the HP to not fall at high RPM than to increase the peak. Important if you're a racing, less important if its just a spirited DD.

I will be installing it in two weeks. I removed my APR Carbonio Intake system. I also want a clean/stock sleeper Tiguan No luck on the downpipe for a 4Motion Tig. I can't believe no one is fabricating a downpipe for the 4Motion Tiguan. Goodspeedperfomance.com did but they will cause an annoying CEL due to different state emission.

Gentlemen, Techtonics Tuning DOES make a 4MO downpipe (and it's cheap). Arin@APR also indicated to me that the Golf R Downpipe would likely fit with minor modifications to the subframe bracket. ANY of the downpipes will cause a CEL without a test pipe file (APR or otherwise) in the tune. The solution is installing an o2 sensor spacer in-line with the 2nd o2 sensor.

    Techtonics Tuning Downpipe:

    http://techtonicstuning.com/main/ind...oducts_id=1770

    42DD spacer:

    RAI Spacer:

    http://www.raimotorsport.com/RAI-J-P...p/11621vib.htm

If you have any other questions about how to make it work for whatever state you are in don't hesitate to ask.

Mine will be installed on Monday so I'll let you all know how it feels.

Awesome info. Are you running an APR tune now or stock? Any chance of a dyno run before and after?

APR Stage 1 right now. No dyno though. I will dyno with the k04 on stock DP just because no one at APR can give a concrete answer on power without a DP.

It's at the shop having the K04 put on as I type this! It seems that there is going to be a hold up though due to a P0507 code. I'm hoping it's something that can be fixed without ordering parts, but based on some quick research it seems that intake flapper, throttle body, and diverter valve are the most likely culprits. That means ordering parts and not getting the car back until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.

On the plus side, my loaner is a brand new 2012 Tiguan SE and I like the interior of my 2010 MUCH better, besides the steering wheel of course.

Yeah. I should have also mentioned that the chart is labeled wrong. It should be Weight/HP and Weight/TQ. Oh well. Should be fun, I SHOULD have the car back today. Dealership is waiting on a PCV valve that was faulty.

Manifold is to the back left of the turbo picture. The turbine housing is cast into the manifold on our IHI turbo and the Borg Warner K04 that is going in.

Yes there is! There were some complications with the install, I dont yet have all the features in my software flash (93 oct works fine though), and the dealership mis diagnosed the check engine light slits still there (Bill Jacobs VW in Naperville, IL sucks!!!) but DAMN does this car move!!

I'm on vacation in Baltimore right now visiting family, but when I get home I'm putting an SPM intercooler on and I'll post some acceleration videos.

The install was done at a local VW dealer. They did a TERRIBLE job. Until that situation is resolved I'm going to refrain from posting more info.

Though I appreciate you posting a video of it, and dream of doing the K04 myself, I do wish you hadn't done 0-85mph in what looks like a residential neighborhood. One kid runs out in the street late at night trying to catch the cat that got out the door, and someone dies.

If you are going to do something like this, could at least do it on the freeway when there isn't much traffic.

Impressed with the acceleration, but I've got to agree with the other guy. Go to an on ramp, or pull over on the freeway.

All good points. We made sure it was "safe". Buddy drove the street seconds before to make sure no one was outside.
