Thread: Reverting to stock headlights problem

  1. 07-22-2012 11:42 PM #1
    Hey guys,

I recently bought a '90 G60 about a month ago and it's been fun so far. My first Corrado and actually, my first VW. Aside from smoking from the intake manifold area, battery dying, charger not boosting, and various common Corrado problems, it's been pretty reliable driving back and forth to work. I bought it for a fun, project-like daily and I love driving it. It had Helix HID projector headlights which I didn't like so I bought stock headlights. Upon removing the old headlights, I can't seem to find the old connectors that will connect to stock bulbs and random wires hanging.

What exactly is the connector in the blue circle? Does this connector connect to a harness that connects to the headlights? And the random wires that are there, I have no clue what they. They were on the Helix headlights. Pretty much, is it safe to just leave these hanging wrapped up in electrical tape? Or will these cause shortage problems, etc..

I had a feeling those HID headlights were giving me problems. I noticed that the headlight switch light wouldn't stay lit when completely switched on. It'd only light up when turning it to the first position. I swear they caused my battery to drain completely dead (red top Optima). I just hope this is an easy fix to get these stock headlights to work and it'll be one less problem I have to deal with.

    Thanks guys for any help!

Cut it all out and start over. That is bad electrical work and you don't want that in your car. I know you don't want to hear this, but you should probably just pony up for a full e-code relayed headlight harness. You will be much happier in the long run and it will prevent any electrical (read: melted car) problems in the future (from that particular system at least...). You will need to trace all the wires back to the original OEM leads and find the colors in the Bentley.

^ thanks for the reply! any idea where i could get that full e-code relayed harness from? also, would i be able to use them with non e-code headlights and 9004 bulbs? the relayed harness would just make stock 9004 bulbs brighter correct?

    thanks
