Thread: my first DIY (air box mod) what do you think

So.. i just got myself a 2005 golf. no thrills all stock and my buddy told me to swiss cheese my air box... but i took a different path with it. i went out and spent about 25-30 bucks for some 3'' flex hose and fittings. today we removed the stock air box intake shoved this 3'' hose in and covered up the open space that was left. we broke some plastic so we could fit the hose down in behind the bumper. zip tied it in to place facing the drivers side fog lite opening cover and cut out some plastic to allow for more air flow. we put the air filter back in and closed up the air box started it up and did not see it throw any codes. i know its a bit of a polish air mod and i don't know what I'm going to gain from it. hell if all i see is like 1.5 mpg increase I'm happy. so being new to VW and doing work on my car i was wondering what you all think. waist of time or was it worth a shot. if anything i got to spend the afternoon working on my car with some friends and had a good time.

So you moved the point of your air intake from the grill and headlight area down about 10 inches so it picks up more road grime, grit and dirt.....

prob wont really notice anything and for about the same amount of money maybe a little more you couldve bought a cone filter at autozone and had it looking a little nicer, it is something different what you shouod do is go the opposite way and have tubing come out of the hood
