I recently bought a 2004 A4 Avant 1.8T with the 6 speed transmission. It is a great car, and I am enjoying the additional space over my '02 GTI for sure. I cannot believe the fuel economy these things get!
However, the shifter is very sluggish. It feels as though you are trying to shift through a bucket of molasses. When the car is cold, it feels normalish, but when it warms up it gets stiff enough that if you push the shifter sideways left or right from nuetral it just stays there rather than returning to the center. It seems to shift fine otherwise, so I think that the issue is in the shifter. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was the solution?
Unless there is a simple answer, I will probably order a short shifter like a JHM that replaces the ball and socket part of the assembly and give that a try. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
