Thread: Aftermarket TB for MK3 vr6

  1. 07-24-2012 12:48 PM #1
Ok solooking into going SRI on my brothers 3.0 vrt, with a 80mm tb. My question is can I use and aftermarket TB with a different manufacturer TPS? I'm sure it could be hooked up to give the .6v at idle and the 4.3v at full open, but is there a way to trick the ecm from throwing a MIL for the idle control valve in the OE TB.

Anybody with any option chime in.

Im not too knowledgeable when it comes to forced induction but I believe Ive read ppl use mustang throttle boddies and then you would use stand alone like megasquirt to remove the need for a TPS. Some one please correct me if Im misleading.

sry didnt understand correctly that you have already an aftermarket one and not looking for one. Stand alone should solve your issues. sry I cant be more helpful.

With standalone you would still use a tps but can essentially use any throttle body. Since you are talking about an obd2 car I cannot think of any stock throttle bodies that are larger that have same connector and idle motor. The v6 Audi is same size. Maybe some v8. In the past we used to use the ford mustang throttles but recently most standalone cars we have been using the stock VW ones. They tend to be more reliable.

I would like to still use the oe ecm and try something aftermarket. Be reliable are you talking about idle issues?

    Are you obd1 or obd2?

The car in question is obd2.

I think that makes it even harder as the idle valve is built in. The stock throttle bodies are a decent size.

True they are, but is the idle valve mandatory to have a decent idle. Most aftermarket throttle bodies have an idle screw, can't that just be set and deal with the tps issue.

Or is there someway to convert to throttle by wire reusing the oem ecu. I'm in California, and I don't want to many issue to work around are bi-annually smog test.
