The seating position of modern F1 cars never ceases to boggle my mind. I can't imagine doing what they do while seated in a Lay-Z-Boy in full recline.

I know crazy, I can't imagine... I think it would be awesome if we (myself included) could all take turns sitting in one before we commented on a driver taking someone out or some other supposed driving "mistake"![]()

I've sat in an old CART car, which was nowhere as extreme as a modern F1 car, and it was still very limited in your field of vision even without the further restriction of a helmet.
As was pointed out by the Sky commentators this weekend, the drivers aren't really looking straight ahead, but rather driving by looking down the sides of the car since the seating position and the raised nose essentially kill any forward visibility, while the high cockpits and HANS device remove any lateral visibility.

Years ago, I raced a friend's Formula Ford for a couple of events. I was amazed at how little I could see, compared to my sedan race car (VW Rabbit). I can't imagine what it's like in a modern F1 car. High nose, high cockpit walls, reclined seating position. It's amazing those guys can see anything that's not in front of them!

I know they're always saying that they're sitting on the pavement but damn they really are sitting on the pavement!
I've sat in what I assume to be a mock up of a MP-4-16 at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart. It was actually strangely comfortable.
