My 05 Passat GLS came with two tire size availabilities. The first was 205/55R16 91H. The second was 225/45R17 94H, which is what I have.
The tires I'm looking at buying currently are 225/45R17, but the load index is only available as a 91 rather than 94. Will this cause a problem? A friend brought up the notion that the wheel size increase from 16 to 17 could have warranted moving from 91 to 94. Is this possible, or will it probably be okay?
Ideally, do what ever the manual says. Or go by the tire placard in the door jamb. Either one is likely fine, and safe. The 91 will ride a bit better, the 94 will likely have sharper steering response due to a stronger sidewall.
