after last season the man has earned a little breathing room

failure to get back to at least the NFC CG however, and the 9ers could be looking at other QB options

Tolzien looked sharp against backups. I'd like to see him get a bit more time this preseason.

I'm still not convinced with Smith. At least this year they appear to be totally stacked in the backfield, so hopefully he'll only have to make a pass here and there to keep them moving.

Harbaugh likes to run the ball. They just picked up two more TE's to work out. Setting themselves up to just pound away.

any more teams are building defenses to stop the pass

why not try and run it down their throats?

Keep the high powered offenses on the sidelines
      Much lower turnover chances
Wears down opposing defenses to open up everything in the 4th
      Keeps games close
creates more pressure on the other team to score as they will have fewer chances

I used to play this way online NCAA/Madden back on the PS2 in college - everyone in tournaments would pick and throw 90% of the time. I normally ran the ball 60-70% of the time and passes were short inbound passes to mimic a run (old school wco).

In stead of games being 52-49 they were normally 13-9 and no one ever wanted to play because i always had a couple of plays that would work that i would never use unless needed

your time of possession goes way up and your defense stays fresh. Honestly i think any team with a strong defense should have a strong ground game to compliment it. We have it in Seattle, you guys have it in SF, Baltimore has it, and so on..

    5. 08-18-2012 09:36 PM #30
      Jacobs hurt
      Randy Moss looks deadly
      Kaep's running
      Kaep's throwing
Second string defense could be top 15 worthy (emphasis could)
      Alex Smith looks sharp
just not lying on the ground

flashes of brilliance then look lost. Can't feel too bad about that TD drive when the entire second string defense is playing their first string offense and they still had some issues moving the ball

      im happy with the progress

Pretty sloppy game, but there are some guys that look pretty good.

James looked hesitant in the run game. Don't like that.

Tolzien is going to end up as the backup. He stands in the pocket, makes the reads and delivers the ball.

Jacobs ... I'm not overly torn up about the injury. Early reports say everything is intact and he should be back this season.

Moss dropped a pass that he normally catches. I'm sure he'll get **** for that one.

Both the offense and defense looked really dialed back. Not giving up much.

Can't put much stock in the pre-season with Harbs. No game planning and just going out and running vanilla plays. I'm sure he'll have some interesting **** dialed up for the regular season.

Either way, I'm glad we lost. Remember what happened the last time we went 4-0 in the preseason?

anyone else think they should just cancel the 4th preseason game

i think most of them are played on a thursday and most starters are pulled after 2 plays

Guys, out of curiosity, anyone interested in an authentic Crabtree away jersey? I've been trying to sell it on Ebay, and haven't gotten more than 25.00 for a winning bid. I'm looking for somewhere around 50.00 plus shipping for it.

It's a size 50 I bought from the NFL shop a few years back. It's in mint condition too. Thought I'd give it a shot here.

      Made a few insignificant cuts.

I'll be really curious to see who they carry at QB, RB and WR. Lots of depth and some decent talent that will more than likely find successful work elsewhere.

they cannot cut Kaep or let that man walk. He might be better than Alex

They way Kaep is playing i am actually excited to see how Smith will play when the whole team is playing for keeps

      Agreed.

He has come along quite nicely this preseason. Drop Josh Johnson and keep Smith, Kaep and Tolzien.

So, Parys placed on IR, out for the season. That really blows. We kept 3 OLB's, including him. Now we have Aldon and Ahmad, and picked up Hagens from the Cards. This could be bad.

injuries will do this team in

like the year Manny Lawson went out - i always felt that team could have made a playoff run and then BAM - hes done for the year and well the 9ers just had another ****ty run

Aldon replaced him as a starter so here is hoping not much was lost on that injury

      They'll be fine.

      This year's roster:

Obviously planning on running teams into the ground if possible. Lots of backs.

Spoke too soon and they give up a sloppy TD.

The refs are nuts on both sides. They should have brought back replays until the holdout is over. It would have at least cleaned up the games.

Won't gripe too much about the refs because they are blowing calls both ways. They really need to settle that labor dispute though.

kind of what i have been saying to my GB friends via text and facebook. No way GB should have even been that close but whatever

      **** YES!!!!

Also Detroit did not look too solid either against the Rams. 17 Rookies on Jeff Fisher's team and they almost beat Detroit in Detroit.

9ers need to stick it up the Lion's ass next Sunday

It is also wear your favorite jersey to work day thursday for the bears pack game. I think i might pick up a new one - just need to figure out - Gore Davis or Moss hmmmmm. Maybe Alex Smith (i believe now/again )

      im still excited

Yeah ... that game could easily have been 30-15.

A win is a win though. Despite the score being that close, it was a pretty dominant performance.

So much depth on this team that Willis was hanging out on the sideline, Moss, Manningham, Gore .... all taking turns chilling on the side. Yet everyone still got their touches.

Crabapple actually really impressed this game. I might have to lay off that guy a bit.

goldson should have caught that for a pick 6. Also a couple of times Moss was lined up in single coverage and no safety help

im wondering if this was only to be used in desperate times - Alex looked at it and did nothing

Also know why Moss doesnt like to block - see the run by Hunter that was a TD then called down at the 2? Moss tried to block but was just blasted by a defender

      He blocked im impressed

Im laying off Alex Smith - he finally looks good. Big Ben good in the fact that he can get the job done without ****ing up.

Really hope they can find a way to resign Bowman. Is he up for a contract this year or next? He is becoming a beast that might be a cap casualty
