Thread: Interior Leak

  1. 07-26-2012 08:06 PM #1
Looks like my driver side door leaks at the top when driving with the windshield wipers on. Usually only in a good rain storm will it do this. It isn't pouring in but it's a few drops on my ride home from work today. How would they even try and replicate this at the dealership? Worth taking in since it is just a few drops it is this the precursor to something more devious if not taken care of?

    thanks!

I had something similar happen to me a few weeks ago. Bad storms, windshield wipers. Few drops of leak. I had attributed it whatever rain might have gotten onto the painted part of the door as I was getting in the car. It's only "leaked" on me once (despite driving with rain and wipers multiple times). I don't know what to make of it right now. The seal looks intact. Not sure I could reproduce it if I even wanted to.

Use a garden hose to test the leak.

See if you can reproduce the leak with a hose like already stated then take it up to VW and see if they can adjust the door or check/replace the seals around it. It doesn't sound like a big deal but in 5 years you're going to be saying "damn I wish I had taken that in to be fixed when it was still under warranty"

I had the same issue on my R. Only driver's side. I attributed it to the roof rack I installed. Took into dealer #1 and they were useless (i.e. its the roof rack - you are SOL). Took it to Dealer #2 and they brought the door in by 2mm to make a tighter seal (who knew that could be done).

Leak gone even with the roof racks. If it is happening even without a rack then I would take it to the dealer and get them to tighten it up as much as they can.

This seems to be quite common.

Same here except I seem to have fixed it myself.

It was raining when I noticed it so what I did was took a towel and wiped the area to try to pinpoint where it was coming from. Then I kind of just pulled and pushed the seal back and forth wiped it down and checked to see its straight and not bending or something in any place not getting good seal.
Drove it home without issue after that

I noticed the day after a heavy rain that when I put the driver's window down and then up there was water residue on the window. All 3 other windows were dry when opened and then closed. No interior leakage though.
