Took two steps back today , but I'm counting my blessings. Turns out I had a lapse in judgement last night when making the repair to the oil feed. I should have listened to my gut, called it a night and waited till today to get the proper oil feed hose to replace the one that was sliced by the fan. Instead, the line I used allowed me to make it about 5 miles before it ruptured and spewed oil everywhere. The good news, if there can be any good news about this:

    1) I caught the leak almost immediately. Driving back to where things happened, from where the oil trail starts to where I coasted to a stop is only 200ft or so. Initially I was thinking that it was leaking for a half mile or something, but that wasn't the case. So the charger and the motor should be okay. (And there was no STOP or flashing cel on the cluster, so I must not have lost that much oil...although looking at the road you would think an oil tanker came through there ).

    2) I was only about 1/2mile from home

    3) BNR was close by to flat bed the car and drop it back off in my garage

    4) My buddy had a braided stainless oil feed that should work, so repairs can be made tonight.

    5) I have a spare belt to replace the oil soaked one on there now

I learned my lesson....but am thankful it wasn't worse....The car did feel great though before this all happened

We all have those days...the engine bay looks great.

Soak the belt in hot water with dawn, scrub as needed.

Clean the pulleys with brake cleaner...

Well, she runs again!....well did till I went to swap the belt .....got the new braided stainless line on. But, unfortunately my "spare" belt must not be the right one. I bought it in the classifieds here, so I take it I must of got burned. The one that was on the car came from Superchargerrebuilds, and although it was tight, it wasn't too bad go slip on. This one is about a 1/2" to 1" too short it seems. Bill, thanks for that bit of advice (Soaking the belt in hot water and soap), I'm going to do that so I can use it until the new belt I just ordered comes in.

How much more finished do you want!

I'll get a video or two soon....although don't expect much. I'm a WAY better photographer! lol

On a positive note, car is running well....just over 200mi on it, knock on wood. Decided to go for the drive to DOTB this weekend, but I'm bringing the garage with me

Yea, I don't have any complaints.....boost comes on strong, fast, and I have no problem getting to 6-7 #'s. That said, I don't have nearly the experience as you do....so to be honest, I'm not even sure what I might be missing out on lol.

Yes, yes it has, although the only future power mods I think will make it under my hood is a Devils Own WM kit and TT cams. I know I'll get used to the power to a degree, but it really is enough for where and how I drive. I have no idea what I would do with another 100whp lmao.

Nothing like the 3-4 gear shift @ wot To be honest though, I haven't had a chance to really open her up yet. Most sections of road that I know I can stretch her legs on, I have'nt visited at an off peak time....so everytime I remotely get on it, I quickly have to stand on the brakes....80-120 seems like it happens in a blink of an eye now though.

Be very careful with the W/M Devil's Own nozzles. I had a D04 come apart on me and inject itself into the engine. Hence the tear-down and sell-off of the parts. Not saying it's Devil's Own in particular, but clearly a design flaw with that sourced part.

Well I made it! Car ran great.....600mi, highway, city, sitting in traffic, in some rain, no issues....not even a cel. I probably just jinxed myself, but I'm so relieved . I have to download my pictures, but below is one from someone else. I ended up taking 3rd for the r32 class....not much competition, only (10) or so cars, 5 or 6 only really being modified, so I sort of had a 50/50 chance at getting something . If my car was bagged I probably would have taken 1st....people love some bags . Its all good though, the trophy is cool

GRATS buddy! Glad to hear that things are working out.. I think after next weekends show ( Pacific Waterlands - down in burnside, Or ), my R goes back on jack stands... List of *next* to-do's:

    - cams - prob looking at 272/264's
    - UM tune update with cam file, maybe launch control
    - New ductwork for charger - help from luis - huichox4
    - New silicone couplers for ductwork -
    - suspension refresh - gotta get new rear struts - poss send fronts back to KW for a rebuild
    - check all front bushings, tie rods, cv's etc
    - get vf or alt driverside motor mount
    - catch can
    - get gti driver side vent, mount boost gauge permanently
    - get smaller drycell battery, sink in rear trunk foam partition

-- we'll see if anything else creeps into the list

Well, couple new things. Added a white LED to the center vent to illuminate the boost gauge a little better. I'll take picture tonight when it gets dark, its so much better. I installed the carbonite coated pulley I bought. (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...charger-pulley) It was supposed to be 2.5", but it was actually 2.4375". I was a little concerned, but Bill gave me the nudge needed to go for it . Polished the charger again since I had it off and also put on a new Home Depot lip since my old one was looking beat.

I took the car out for a rip this morning and it runs GREAT with the smaller pulley. With the standard 2.62" pulley I had to pull to 7k+ to make 6-7psi (Which was fun), but now I can easily get to ~6psi at 6k rpm. Power just comes on stronger and sooner. I'm still a little timid about leaning into it up to the limiter with this smaller pulley, but I imagine it should be able to make 8-9psi if pushed. Small steps, but I'll find out...

I was a little concerned, but Bill gave me the nudge needed to go for it . Polished the charger again since I had it off and also put on a new Home Depot lip since my old one was looking beat.

I took the car out for a rip this morning and it runs GREAT with the smaller pulley.
