What would be the car for you that you'd be happy just driving and owning for years without getting bored with it and having car fever after a couple of years?

If I didn't have to care about practicality, for me it'd definitely be the next gen Cayman S. I'd keep my Golf for when I need more cargo space or when I need to tow something or haul bikes.

I wouldn't even care what my daily was, as long as it did the job. Shti, I'd rock a beige camry with a sticker - "My other car is a racecar." Would be looking forward to take this beauty out every night down some twisties and to the track on the weekends... A guy can dream

It is a good question and I am not sure....I have car fever pretty badly and its mostly not very expensive cars.... it is an illness I like the cars I have now, but am constantly thinking about the next one.

Nothing would ever cure my car fever. If I could, I'd be like Jay Leno and have massive warehouses to store my hundreds and hundreds of cars.

"What car would end the constant car fever for you?"

If a time duration were part of the question (let's say for the next two or four years) I'd try to choose but if the car choice was to end the obsession for exciting new or old cars forever - that car hasn't been nor will it ever be built. Choosing for me is impossible .

I'm a simple man with simple needs. This is the car. I have one waiting for me in my garage in Heaven, btw.

Do you enjoy old cars and long-winded stories about them? If your answer is "yes", then you might enjoy my blogpage. Try it here: http://vwlarry.blogspot.com . Leave a comment, too; I love feedback! Thanx for reading.

A 911 of just about any variety would make me a very happy man, I look a few hours a week at examples for sale even though I'm not close to being in the market... Gotta dream about something all day

I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

For all of you saying sports cars, you will get bored of it. You will DD it till you are bored as hell.
Then this thread will start up again.
    Easy like Sunday Morning.

Skip heaven Larry. Word has it that the speed limit in heaven is just 10 mph and is strictly enforced. Word also has it that in hell you supposedly can have any car you lusted for while alive - but you can never drive or sit in it.
Simple fix, hang some paper and buy that 356 Porsche before you take the 'dirt nap' and drive its wheels off .

Interesting photo. The polite gentleman seems to be saying, "Here, your drive because I can't drive a stick" while opening the driver door and the young lady is trying to get the mans attention by pointing upwards as if she just said, "hold on, you're trying to trick me, "there's no key in the ignition".

Extended cab 4x4 version of my truck that got 30+ mpg

I love my truck and the only reason I've thought about getting rid of it was b/c of the gas mileage. I've also just broke the 1yr mark; which is a record for me.

What gas mileage do you get? Also Cummings diesel with a manual trans FTW!

I probably shouldn't even be responding to this thread, as I don't believe in new cars, but I'll chime in with my lame answers and let everyone ignore my post.

I am completely content with both of my cars. My golf is a heck of a lot of fun and leaves me desiring nothing. It gets 30mpg freeway, carries tons of cargo with the rear seats down, and is a heck of a lot of fun to drive with the VR6. The only thing that bugs me is the occasional reliability issues. But I'm not itching to find something to replace it, and I use it as a yardstick for anything I compare it against. Its hard to find anything that offers the space, fun, and gas milage that this does. If I didn't have my 300zx, I would supercharge it to quell the power bug.

However, my 300ZX has me more than content as far as power/fun goes. Again, I think my opinion is moot in this kind of thread because I haven't had the opportunity to ride in (m)any exotic cars. The Z is great from a reliability aspect, and as it sits right now its got more than enough power to make myself and passengers giddy. I've had the Z for 4 years now and I get excited just thinking about driving it.

Yes its a lame answer, but I haven't had car fever since I purchased either of these cars.

The novelty of a new car wears off around the 3 month mark for me, so nothing. I think I would be most content with something like a 997.2 Turbo or R8 5.2 (when factoring in things like maintenance and reliability), but even then the smiles/miles go down after the first day.

    11 city/15mixed /18hwy

I've gotten 22 but that was when I babied it and kept my speed around 60-65 the entire time. I also attribute the poor city/mixed numbers to the fact that I live in Atl.

No car would end it for me per se, I think. I need to have some cars to keep my happy and not wanting to change. In fact, I've had my red Mk3 for two years now, I built it for/with a buddy four years ago and it hasn't changed much since. The reason behind this is that I have enough cars to keep my busy, if I grow tired of the car I'll park it and take it out a year later, then I'm in love again.

I have a few cars I will keep for years already - a low mileage 86 Westy Golf Mk2 and my red Golf Mk3. My Toyota FunCargo would be retired from daily duties sometime and driven occasionally. My grandfather's '59 Beetle, 40k miles from new would also sit in the garage.

My long term goal, car wise and living wise, is to acquire a house with a garage to keep them inside, plus a low mileage, euro Evo 8 (needs to be stock) and a Mk2 Golf G60 Limited. When I'm there, people can have their GT3s and F40s, I have my little collection of weird cars no one else but me and a few others will walk past without blinking. I will be satisfied though, I know.

Until then I'll keep on changing out and hoarding.. If I wasn't made the way I am, I'd have an F30 328i and a GT86 and keep them for 20+ years.

No car would end the fever, but if we're talking about a car that we would be truly happy driving for a long time with no regrets or wishing it was something else....... NSX.

Other than that, the list starts getting pretty expensive....

Specifically an A coupe? I'm just asking. I like the lines of the early cars (that one is absolutely perfect) but the mechanicals of the later ones. It's nearly a toss-up for me, but I'd probably go with a C coupe, myself.

I suppose if we're talking about what's in Heaven, then it'd be a 356 Carrera. I don't think I'd want one on earth unless I had so much money I could have something like Jay Leno's garage! I'd be content here with a pushrod 356.

I suppose you've just stated that in your heart you'd rather have a 356 than a Cord, correct? (This is for the record, btw.)

I'd like to think that if I got something with the perfect balance of looks, power, and handlilng that I'd be all set. And I probably would be for a little while, but I'd see something else and start wondering what it's like to drive. Or read an article and become interested in something new. I'm generally pretty satisfied with my mustang, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about getting something faster, with a better suspension in 5+ years. I'm not seriously lusting over used caymans or c6 z06's, but I know at some point, I will absolutely be looking into something like this.

Who knows though, if I should get one of those cars in the future, maybe I'll be satisfied enough with the car that I won't really want to get anything else. The odds are against that happening however.

Car fever isn't about the car you're driving being inherently boring to drive; it's about the lack of novelty. Being inherently boring doesn't help, of course.

To those ends there's no way I'd want a GT2 RS or something like that. In fact a single exotic car is just about the worst way to maximize the novelty you can get out of $250,000. The kind of people who actually own these cars are continually trading up the way we do with our <$25,000 cars.

The best way to keep it fresh is a car that's endlessly rebuildable and upgradeable.

Why would you want to cure car fever, when you can just trade your 2007 Cadillac DTS in on a 2006 Jaguar XK8 convertible for the summer, and plan on buying a new TDI in the fall?

    http://www.roadandtrack.com/column/the-jaguar-solution

I just read this article yesterday, and it made me think of my constant car itches and how nice it must be to just act on them and switch vehicles on a whim.

That said, I do think if I bought a 981 Boxster or Cayman, I probably would keep it forever. That is an excellent choice!

It doesn't even have to be the V10. I'd be happy with the 4.2L.
