If you're going from an OBD2 VR to another, its just matter of unplugging everything, taking it out, and doing the reverse steps when putting the new one in.

So me being Captain Retardo I hydrolocked my VR6 last night, now this guy is selling me a VR6 that came out of a 97 Jetta I believe. Here's my question, Can I swap it right in to my car or does it need some other goodies like an ECU and perhaps the 2 O2 sensor cat?

I believe the 95 B4 GLX is OBD2 how can I really tell though?

i don't think 95 is...it would have a downstream o2 sensor if it was...did the switch from distributed to coil pack follow the change from obd 1 to obd 2?
COYS!!!

Passats were available with coilpacks in 1994.
OP: either check the O2 sensor as mentioned above,
or pull the plastic raintray cover and simply look at the ECU number.
OBD1 (ECU code: xxx xxx 258)
OBD2 (ECU code: xxx xxx 259)
From here.
FS: AAA VR6 thermostat cover, B4 lower C-pillar plastic trim
VW DIYs and guides, color codes, DTC/P-codes

I have a '93 B3 VR6 OBDI w/ coilpacks. I'm currently in the process of swapping in a '97 OBDII into it. The long block is exactly the same. It's the accessories (intake mani, etc.) that are different. So I'm just selling all the OBDII accessories that came with the motor, and putting on my OBDI specific stuff. All you need is a VR longblock, from any year the VR6 was produced.
