New to boating

I just picked up a 76 Baja to see how I like the water.

It has what I believe to be a 93 Johnson 90hp outboard on it. Does anyone know much about these? I'm doing some research online but some help from the tex would be nice

I have an early vintage Baja too.

I would bet the model you have is a splash of an early checkmate. I don't know anything about johnnyrudes, but basic stuff is all the same for outboards.

I would change out your water pump and lower unit gear lube before you drop it in the water. Cheap and easy insurance.

Read some boating basic rules, know how and where to pass other boats, things like that. Stay safe.
