so i got a round to installing the 02m (tranny code ERR) today. i needed to take off the passenger axle flange to mount it up.
but now i cant figure out how to get the damn thing back on.
any help would be appreciated.
i did search and all i found was, "compress the axle flange enough to get the bolt in" but it doesnt specify on how to do it. im gonna try using a big c clamp tomorrow.
I would put the pass drive axle flange last when it's in the car. 2 reason, it make it easier to install transmission without flange in, it clears the flywheel assembly. Once the transmission in, use pry bar a press against by wedging the pry bar on back engine, that will compress the flange spring to put the Allen bolt in.
why does everybody say it wont clear the clutch?
when i tried to mount the tranny with the flange, it DID clear the clutch. what it wasnt clearing was the sleeve that stuck out of the block. the sleeve goes into the bell housing, and a bolt goes through the block and sleeve and threads into the tranny. its the only bolt that goes from the block to the tranny.
its on the back side of the block.
i'll snap a pic and post it for clarification.
and i didnt think about using a pry bar to compress it. thanks.
why is it spring loaded anyway? i mean, its bolted in. so what purpose does the spring provide?
Most all transmission flanges are spring loaded, either using c-clip or bolted, it need extra tension for diff. Yes you can leave inner flange on, just have to rotate the transmission up more to clear flywheel and subframe. It just easier to remove the flange to have more clearance if DIY thing.
