free bump for gretta
#1
SOLD
Unfortunately, the time has come for us to sell our MK2.
The car was originally owned by a member of a German Archdiocese. Under his ownership, the starter died and the car was eventually parked and left in the church parking lot for an undetermined number of years. The car was then purchased by another VW owner who replaced the starter and sold it to us.
Link from when we brought home the car: Meet Gretta
This car is 100% rust free and the paint is all original. The paint on the hood, trunk and roof is oxidized quite a bit from the years it was parked. I have done everything shy of a respray to make it look better. Even with the clear coat coming off, the paint still feels "glassy" to the touch. The rest of the paint on the car is beautiful.
SOLD with complete 5 spd trans swap

Bump. The longer this car stays, the more I keep cleaning it. :p

Hi there,
I am wondering, will it make the trip to Dallas, TX? How are the brakes? And the tires? Is it CE1 or CE2?
Besides the rear speakers (which I have) and the exhaust, is there anything else bad with the car? Or anything that can affect drivability for a very long extended period of time?
Cheers!

Tires have about 90% of their tread, brake pads and rotors are new and work great. The car is CE2.
As for making the drive to Texas, the only issue I foresee is the starter getting heat soaked. It is located between the block, firewall, intake, and exhaust manifolds. Basically cocooned in the hottest part of the engine bay. This would probably create a hot start issue which would require a cooldown period before it can start again.
Since the car comes with a 5 speed swap (which is not currently installed), it would have to be swapped in prior if you wanted to drive it to TX.

Excellent. And that is not to big of an issue for me. I can always try to relocate it somewhere less hotter. Maybe in the same place the starter is on my GLI.
And does the Automatic transmission work well? Shifts okay? Will the transmission make the trip? This is going to be for my GF if she decides she wants it, and she prefers Automatic.![]()

The automatic trans shifts perfectly and goes through the gears smoothly.
Everything on the car works as it should. All fluids topped off. No oil, coolant, power steering, trans fluid leaks.

Me either.
10 Reasons you should buy this car:
1. No stupid headliner – The headliner is original. It’s not wrapped in your little brother’s Ghost Buster bed sheets from his bed wetting days.
2. No plaid – Nothing screams unoriginal like a DIY plaiding done by a hipster hopped up on PBR with a bucket of Elmer’s Glue.
3. It’s not a swap – You can rest easy knowing that you will not be owning some half-twit’s ambitious attempt at a hybrid VR big turbo diesel swap he did in Nana’s garage.
4. Everything works – I will let you wrap your head around that. Take as much time as you need.
5. It’s not stanced – No stupid offsets or ridiculous camber and poke. Nicely lowered to where you will not burn your fenders or scrape your oil pan, but enough to clip a small kitten with the front lip.
6. All of the wiring is intact –Connectors, casings, everything. It will not catch fire if you try to turn the lights on.
7. No stickers – No “Boobies,” “You Like This,” “Stanceworks,” “Illest,” or any other euro-douche flair has been affixed to the car. The next owner should maybe keep it that way.
8. Maintained properly – Hardware holds this thing together. Not duct tape or zipties like 90% of the cars in these forums.
9. Original paint – That’s right. 100% original. Rest assured that Johnny McDubbin from Lancaster PA did not go anywhere near the car with a spray can, or Pedro from Burritos and Body Work didn’t respray the car behind someone’s barn for $500 and a bottle of Cuervo.
10. It’s slow – You can’t get a speeding ticket and get great MPG’s. It practically prints money.
Bonus: Comes with a 5 speed swap just in case you are into that 3rd pedal business.

My girlfriend left a note on the fridge "It's not working, I can't take it anymore, I'm going to my mom's house."
I opened the fridge.
The light came on. The beer was cold......
What the hell was she talking about?
