I may be going to new york from new jersey this weekend to buy a car and drive it home. Problem is; the car isn't registered so i need a NY in transit permit so I can legally drive it back. But I believe NY dmv's aren't open on saturday's and that's the only day I can get to the car. Is there any way I can get the permit without actually visiting a NY dmv? I found the actual paper work I can download and print on NY dmv's website but I don't know what I can do with that if anything. Or is there maybe another way around it?
My friend bought a rabbit from upstate NY and drove it back to NJ with a set of his own old plates and got pulled over before leaving NY, I forget why. Luckily the cop didn't have the car impounded but gave him a stack of tickets instead, I'd like to avoid this.
