Thread: 02J rebuild questions

  1. 07-30-2012 07:11 PM #1
Hi. I have a grinding 3rd (often) and 4th (once in a while) gears. I want to open it to change those syncros. Since I have the transmission opened up, I would like to refesh it a bit. I don't hear bearing noise from it, but I could change some of the most important bearings so that I could be sure that everything is OK in it.

EHA tranny code in a 1.8T GTI.
    It has 170 000km (~106 000 miles)

While having the transmission opened, which parts should I change at the same time as the syncros?

Gears, if they are worn at the synchro teeth, (3rd). Differential.(Pelo or quaife). Any of the bearings that have worn surfaces. Seals.

2nd the seals, do both flange seals and input shaft seal minimum.. All 3 together probably 30$ or so.

Do I need some special tools besides some different size pullers?
