I went to the track yesterday super excited using the GIAC Race Program 100 Octane, only to be somewhat let down when I had turned of the stability control and it really does not turn off. With the traction control still on I lost a lot of really needed power through some of the turns. So while at the track I started researching the web and found that the European and Canadian cars will really turn off the traction control by holding down the ASR button for 3 seconds and hear a ding sound. It bugged me so much that I am taking action for what should have come on our US spec cars. I spoke with Austin at GIAC and he said check to make sure the part #'s of the ABS Module for the Canandian and US cars are the same and we can change the coding to make it Euro or Canadian spec. So I called this VW Parts guy in Canada (another Austin haha) and ends up he has a Golf R too. What are the odds. He sent me a log of his coding on his Canadian Golf R. I will show you guys however please use at your own risk as I am verifying with Austin at GIAC that the codes match up with his Golf R connects in Europe and Canada. I am itching to find out. Once I do I will repost my findings. Here is the Canadian spec coding below:

    Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104) Labels: 1K0-907-379-60EC1F.clb
    Part No SW: 1K0 907 379 BJ HW: 1K0 907 379 BJ
    Component: ESP MK60EC1 H31 0121
    Revision: 00H31001
    Coding: 144B800C492580FD281201E492210141310000
    Shop #: WSC 01357 011 00200
    VCID: 7BFF187EFAFE411

    No fault code found.

For what it's worth, here's my current (absolutely stock and untouched) ABS brake coding (NA region of course):

    Code:
    Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104) Labels: 1K0-907-379-60EC1F.clb
       Part No SW: 1K0 907 379 BJ HW: 1K0 907 379 BJ
       Component: ESP MK60EC1 H31 0121
       Revision: 00H31001
       Coding: 144B800C49230002280D01E8921D0041B70000
       Shop #: WSC 01357 011 00200
       VCID: 7BDB2371FAFE411

    No fault code found.
My super leet mods, cosmetic/touch/feel only for negligible Vortex cred: HPA dogbone mount, Dieselgeek short-shifter, aluminum look glovebox handle, R logo seat handle inserts, OEM LED tail lights, smoked side markers, and LED interior lighting.

Awesome the coding is different so that is giving me an idea that this coding from Canada should work. I just want to wait for the results from Austin at GIAC to verify the Canadian and Euro codes. I think we are on to something guys...super siked!!! No more power dips through the turns!!!

I will try to recode tomorrow morning. Only because if I got out of bed right now to recode my car on a public street in NYC, my wife will really think the game is up.

I just tried it it says "error 31 request out of range"
I think you need a security key to unlock the module

I'm pretty sure someone had tried this 2 or 3 months ago and had the same problem as this. They even tried changing one byte at a time and couldn't get the system to accept the changes...

If the part number is the same ordering a Canadian ABS module will do nothing as it still has to be coded.

We probably need to go through the Security Access to fully change the coding.

Noobs. If you read the original thread I already went over this three months ago.

Siliconerane got the coding from a Can model and I tried it. You need an SVM unit to change more than the last 4-5 bytes on the abs module.

    Hmm, my current coding is

    144B800C492200FD281101E992220041B70000

    and I tried

    144B800C49248000281301EC921A0141310000

in both Lcoding helper and in the new coding field and both times got a error 31 coding out of range.
Supposedly mcgyver7923 is attempting to change his through a possible source. Others may try sourcing a Canadian unit.

Keep in mind that every time a tech connects your car that a Flag will be thrown and your software change may be over written with the American coding.

    From rosstech:

    Software Version Management (SVM)
Software Version Management (SVM) is a system used by VW/Audi to update control modules and in certain cases, to change their Coding.
Retrofits and Modifications which are not or cannot documented using Software Version Managements (SVM) at the dealership should be documented in the customer’s vehicle documents. Examples including: Non official retrofit procedures, or ones that aren’t in the VW/Audi system.
We recommend you add the following information to the service/owners manual of the car:

Type and complexity of the Retrofitting/Modification
Location of the Retrofitting/Modification (Contact Person in Case of Problems)
Software/Hardware Part Numbers of the Modules which have been replaced (if applicable)
Coding and Adaptation Changes made during the Retrofitting/Modification (before and after)
The Reason for these suggestions is that the dealer tech may perform a SVM Comparison the next time the car comes in. Every discrepancy compared to the settings after the car was produced will be flagged and the tech will be asked he wants to correct those. If he does all changes get reversed and your retrofitting/modification may not work any longer, so the documentation should inform the tech or at least help to reverse the changes made when necessary.

    Search is your friend

Greetings All. This has been address a couple of times in some much angrier threads with much ranting involved. Seems to be one of those coding changes that has to be done with a much more sophistocated peice of nerd-esque equipment. Someone hit a VW engineer and "acquire" his computatorz.
