Crankshaft Front Seal

There's oil coming out of my crankshaft and being slung all over my engine so I figure my crankshaft seal is bad, now I want to replace it but don't have the tools to do it

first off would an impact gun be fine to get the crankshaft pullley off? or would I need to buy a tool to brace the crankshaft pulley? also what about the harmonic balancer isn't there a brace need to hold that in place to get that off?

second remvoing the seal is a screwdriver fine just to remove it? the tool to remove it is around $100-$200 and I don't really have the money for that right now, but someone near me may have it,

and last installing the seal would a block of wood and a hammer be fine to tap it in? or would I need the tool to do this? I want to get this done while I have most of the stuff off the engine thanks!

take pully off with impact.
take the screw off to remove plate.( it bolts to block and oil pan)
take flat head and hammer it out seal (dont score the wall)
take new seal dab oil on it take flat wood and hammer it in. and re-install everything

careful when installing over the crank. (a lot of oil helps to install)

and get new crank bolt.

ok great what about notching a hole in the piece of wood to get over the crank

then it just slide out.

I'm not to sure if I'm seeing the separation but from the other directions it sounds not as complicated as I was thinking, I ordered 3 seals so in case I mess them up when installing and I'll have to get the crank bolt too

also once I take the pulley off I think I'll figure it out, I may start doing this tomorrow and is it necessary to remove the oil pan when doing this?

no but u need to remove 5 screw closest to the crank pully. ok look at the pic do you see on the top its aliminum (it has the 5 screw hole which are the bolts u need to remove)

now if u want u can remove oil pan and clean the oil pickup screen...

any way here i found the pic. this plate is what ur going to see after u take the pully off. remove this plate and replace seal.




where it mates to the block make sure u use high temp red rtv to seal!

Ok I get it now makes complete sense I'm gonna try and tackle this tonight but won't be able to reinstall till tomorrow when I can pick up the crank bolt from the stealership
