Thread: Plasti Dip Tailights - Smoke

  1. 07-31-2012 11:13 AM #1
Anyone do this yet? I'm thinking of doing it this weekend.

At least if I don't like it I can always just peel it off.

By itself i don't like it. I do have a can of Smoke and Glossifier which I've been wanting to test that combination.

Spray can tail lights always look horrible and OEM tinted/dark cherry is the only reasonable approach to darkening IMHO.

I also can't understand how the "blacked-out" concept is still appealing to people considering its widespread popularity from high school JDM all the way to the people who dangle sets of brass testicles on their trailer hitches.

i've seen it in person, I like the matte approach to it. I'll give it a go, if it looks like crap then i'll just peel it off.

If you don't want to go for full new tails spend a little more and get laminx. Paint doesn't turn out right.

I got painted euro R32 style tails done by Darcness on golfmkv on my GTI, and within 2 years, the tint had majorly faded.

Don't go paint...either Lamin-x, OEM tinted tails or even some of the aftermarket dark tails.

Its funny how much people talk smack. This is a total look mod. My preference is Lamin-x. My sides are done with VHT, I really didnt care for it thats why I recommended the Lamin-x. Some of you people respond with these general comments, " Do it right or go home." I just have to say I would rather spend $100 on a visual mod rather than $1000 to get the "proper Euro version" and take the $900 difference and spend it on a mechanical mod to make my car handle better or go faster. If you have the money to throw at a car like that be my guest. If it was me I would rather just buy an Audi or Porsche.

Constructive criticism is usually always welcome by most but Sh!t talk is just going to make you look like the a$$ you really are.

To the OP, I watched the video of that stuff. Definitely didnt look like tint to me. Looked more like just matting something out. I would go with something else if you want tint.
