Thinking of picking this up. It is for sale on ebay and I have not had a chance to drive to look at it but I am in desperate need of a car right now. My MKIII jetta TDI slipped the timing belt and needs a new engine. Thinking of getting this in the mean time. 57,000 miles which is awesome. What is not is that it is an automatic. Anyone have tips on this for me. Trying to see it tonight.

I took a chance on a '91 auto wagon that I bought for $ 200, I was told it needed a timing belt (not broken) and the owner did not wanna pay the quote to have it changed...
I was intantly suspicious of the auto trans...
I changed the t belt, crank bolt, window module, flushed the auto trans twice.....
oil change etc...
I drove it for two solid years with Noooooo problems Surprisingly good fuel economy; on a long trip through the rocky mountains to the west coast a trip consisting of 3200km, not a issue and getting 8.2 L/100km !!!
That car was great...still wish I had it!!!
seriously even with the Auto!
oh yea I lowered it...

Well i have a couple question to the seller and I have not heard anything back so this may end up being a bust either way. Just blew the engine on the jetta so I am looking for a cheap daily and was hoping this would work.

The auto trans has a bad reputation to be unreliable, all i'm saying is that I had a good expeience with an auto B3... It is always risky buying a cheap, older car with the expectation of a reliable vehicle. Beware
