Once your free subscription ran out. . . did anyone negotiate a deal to renew the service?

It's kind of low quality, and hearing the same songs over and over again gets old fast for $14.95 a month of whatever they're trying to set the renewal price at.

Just wondering if anyone got a deal on their Sirius service. . .

Never heard of the Japandroids. . . but I've heard something from then 1000x's in the past couple months when listening to XMU.

I had some sort of special renewal come in for like $3.80 a month... impossible to say no at that price. Then I added all of the sports channels and I think it was another $5/month or something. Will be great when football season starts.

When I renewed it was our second radio so I got a pretty nice discount. Ended up doing 3 years for like $300 out the door. I enjoy Siri a lot, yes the audio quality has gone down since the merger but for music I enjoy a good 6-7 stations so that keeps the repeats at bay.

I have also noticed that they slowly inject new music into each station. I'd prefer that they just expanded the library instead but after a couple of months you won't even hear the Japandroids on XMU anymore (I dig that station as well).

Called and told them I wanted to cancel... with no intentions of doing so. They instantly start offering deals and if you hum and haw eventually you get something reasonable. My best rate was $20 for 5 months so I have to keep calling back every 5 months to renew. Stupid as it sounds, they wouldn't offer me a longer term at that rate.

I called right before the trial period was up. I got a year for $90, so $7.50 a month. That is worth it for me....I drive 500 miles a week.

It is not hard to get the cost down to less than $8/month, but you do have to call. Although I think I did let the trial expire on my previous car and they sent me a 6 month deal for like $25, plus some fees and taxes and such. After that, it has cost me around $80-90/year.

They kept calling me for months after it expired. The one time I actually picked up, I explained that even with the free trial I essentially did not listen to it. I've had plenty of experience with sirius, and I gave it a brief shot in this car to see if they did anything about the sound quality.

The sound quality is still reminiscent of holding your cellphone up to the radio and then listening to it on another cellphone, so its not worth any price, not even free, to me. Pandora is free and superior quality.

They will wheel and deal, I'm told. Mom got in on lifetime for $400! I enjoy having fixed stations no matter where I am in the country including Bloomberg and others that have consistently fresh content.

As to new music, between the SD card slot, hooking up a 32GB iphone, Pandora, youtube and a variety of other audio sources, I'm pretty sure I can find something fresh to listen to with little effort, Sirius or no.

I will renew assuming I can get a favorable enough deal.

Cool. . . knew I could do better than the email they sent out. Guess I'll answer the phone when they call next time (as I looked up the number, and they've been calling for a few days now. . . just been ignoring them).

Yeah I was very happy to sign up our Tiguan for the $400 lifetime package back in 2009. I think that was the last year they offered it.

Good info.. $15 bucks a month is a joke for the 5-6 stations I actually listen to. I guess I know how to play my cards when my 3/mo trial ends

I loved the XM in my Acura. I really didn't like Sirius in the Golf. Since discovering bluetooth streaming and Pandora I've cancelled my service.

I ditched Sirius once my trial ran out.

Since I have my entire music library on my phone, and a premium Spotify subscription, I didn't want to be bothered with another recurring payment just for the one channel (POTUS) that I listened to with any regularity.

It was nice for road trips. However, in my metro area, the signal was extremely spotty. It would constantly go blank and cut out. I can't pay for that.

I agree, in the past we paid for a one month service just to have it for a roadtrip.

But overall experience is poor, low quality sound, and spotty reception in urban areas. Add in their subscription fees and how they charge people's credit cards for auto-renewal, it is a service that I do not need.

Happy with my bluetooth streaming of my own music library and listening to various apps including Pandora One...

Sirius NFL radio is enough value for me to renew.

This isn't even remotely close to true. The sound quality isn't perfect but it's definitely better than FM radio.

I think the sound quality from their iPhone app is superior to the actual satellite radio stream. Does anybody else's cut out when they drive under trees? I live in a very wooded area and have blackout spots all the time...

There are some streets with thick tree canopies where my reception cuts out badly.
I think we'd need to drive around with big satellite dishes to overcome that.

There are other places where I get really bad reception at the same times every day, but better reception in those same spots most other times because the satellite's orbits are closer to the horizon relative to my position.

I wish they had more satellites.

I work at the marketing firm that partners with them- Best deals:
    5MO/$20
    6MO/$25
    Year/$86

Say you were offered it in a mail in coupon and don't have the promo code. They HAVE to honor it. Also they can waive the 15 dollar reactivation fee, don't let them fool you.

I have noticed more brief cutouts in the R than I had in my JSW. I can't really say it is caused by obstacles (like trees) it just seems to happen randomly, but more often.

My dealer told me to wait until it expired and then they would send me a renewal. He said ignore the first one and after that they would send a second one for $15-20 for 6 months.

Not with the promo prices, it goes back to the normal price (way too expensive IMO) after the promo period, with two receivers I believe you get 30% off each additional one after the initial radio. I'd set it to turn off (rather than auto renewal) and keep calling them when it's about to expire and get another promotion. It's a little work but it will save you hundreds.

So my subscription is ending, but I am gonna be swapping to the RNS-510 unit this weekend. This unit has nav-traffic compatibility, along with the travel link services (weather, sports, movie showtimes). Should I wait to install this unit and then talk to Sirius about deals? Not sure how the subscription works if I change headunits, but I heard the free subscription transfers over to whatever unit I use that is Sirius compatible in the car...
