Suppose to be swapping the transmission in my buddies car today, which is a 95 jetta gl. He bought a transmission from a 1992 mk2 jetta thats an AUG transmission. Now from what I believe I can just bolt it in with no issues because I know the axle flanges are 100mm but is the clutch disk splines the same? He literally had a new clutch put in less than a month ago and I'd much rather not have to change it. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

    Nope.
If his trans is a Mk3 2.0L code (AMC, CHE, DFQ, DGD) or a MK2 16V code (AGB, 2Y) then you would need another clutch disc to fit the smaller input shaft of the AUG code.
The flywheel and pressure plate are fine to keep, but the friction disc would need changed.

Technically, the transmission has a set of gear rations to match the torque band of the engine,
    after 1st gear anyways.

AUG has higher gear ratios (lower output rpm) than the CHE, DFQ etc for mk3

    See http://www.rabbitgtipage.com/transmission.html

You could keep using the AUG, just will burn more gas and money.
