I can't understand what you're saying by "the fluid is red". The new fluid? The old fluid? Have you changed the fluid yet? Are you doing it, or is someone else? What brand is/was the new fluid?

So I decided to change the fluid in my Jetta today, and the fluid is RED. Looking over the forum and other pages, it's supposed to be a golden color, is this correct?
Here are my car details:
2001 Jetta GLS 2.0L AZG with 01M 4 speed auto
Can anyone confirm this for me? If it is wrong, what type of problems am I looking at? It drove nice before the trans fluid swap, but shifted at odd RPMs.

The fluid that came out of the transmission was red. I was replacing it with Pentosin G 052 162 A2. When I noticed it was red, I dumped the fluid, changed the filter, filled it back up, started the car, then dumped all the fluid again and filled it back up with the Pentosin again. It's now a slightly cloudy golden color, which I know isn't good, I'm going to take it to a shop to try and get flushed.

Most off-the-shelf ATF is red. Sounds like the previous owner changed the fluid and it was something other than Pentosin.
How is it shifting now?

there are many fluids that could be used in a 01m that are red.
Yes the original fluid is not red.
Auto trans fluid change or flush will not make a trans fail. Stop spreading the wives tale/urban myth.

The shifts are more firm, and shift at a little bit of a lower RPM now, however the color is still off, my main concern is would it cause any issues further down the road?
