I was wondering if anyone worked with any local companies that deal with modifying personal vehicles to allow amputees to drive. Or, if anyone knows of any that do good work and support veterans. Any information would be great, thanks!

I have a friend who is an amputee, but I believe he can still drive a normal vehicle providing that its an auto. FIZZY is his screen name I believe.

Next time you talk to him, can you find out if he has looked into such modifications? The guys I'm looking for will probably not have the ability to drive even an auto, looks to be severe nerve damage and both legs amputated.

Severe nerve damage to? Just his legs?

We have a friend who had a bad motocross accident and lost the use of his legs. He drives a bagged extended cab pickup so that he can pull himself into the front seat and then fold his chair and slide it in behind the drivers seat.
    oh herro.

Not sure. I'm inquiring for a couple of my buddies, 3 of which lost both legs in separate IED blasts and suffered severe trauma in other areas. They are still going in and out of surgeries and what not, so it will be a little bit before final assessments are made.

I would try and get in touch with the wounded warriors program.

Also, a good place to look for employment when they are back looking is http://www.usajobs.gov

They give veterans preference since it is federal employment positions.

I know their families are in touch with the Wounded Warriors program, and hopefully getting useful information from the Army as well. I haven't been in touch with them since they left, so I'm just trying to get some resources together for them or their families to give them some options.

Yes, my dad was a double amputee sustained from his military service. They outfit a car for us with hand controls. They had more available than what we needed, at all levels. Plus they will help with VA paperwork and financials if needed, and bill insurance if available.

Was riding home tonight and caught a glimpse of a name of a company.the name was either Portland prostectics company, or Oregon prostectics company. They might be of help... Coming from a mechanic, I feel ashamed I can't be of more help than that... I do know there are shops around that specialize in those types of setups, just for the life of me, I don't know any...

Awesome, thanks man. Tell your pops thanks for his service, too, from another SM.

Unfortunately, I can't make time go by faster (wish I could). But, I can do my best to make sure me and the rest of my guys make it back without further injuries. There will be a 'breaking in' party for the kegarator shortly after I get back, though haha
