Thread: Definite tach solution for a, sorry, ANY diesel engine

  1. 08-01-2012 11:53 PM #1
    Hello guys!

i belive in giving, you know, you've gave me so much(the forum and all of your contributions)

    here's the info:

i want a tach on my diesel! dont we all?

i started reading and reading and reading and didnt find anything concrete!

so i decided to do it myself

i had a Crankshaft position sensor of a VR6, found the pinout online and is like this

with the two notches pointing up terminals are 1 2 3
    1: 12v input
2: tach output(here you connect the tach)
    3: ground

so as instructed you have to provide the 12v( better to be switched, so take it from the shut off solenoid), the ground from wherever and send a cable from the tach to the #2 terminal on the plug of the CPS.

add two nuts to the damper, welded glue whatever you like, build a bracket and that's it!

    there you go!

here's a video! it's in spanish but is self explanatory! This is how it works!

let me know what you think!

magnetic pickup can also be used instead of a hall effect sensor..

I believe that hall sensor works like a switch. and the VR(variable reluctance) sensor generate a signal acording by the proximity to the magnet or metal tooth of the wheel.

instead of being a 0 or 1 signal(hall sensor) the signal starts growing from zero to the peak(what ever the peak ends up being and then starts falling) with the VR sensor

but im not sure! any input about the internal works of this two sensors?

034 EFI has a bracket for that VR sensor that bolts on at the 2 holes for the p/s pump bracket. You need PS or at least the last chunk of the ps bracket and then it will bolt on. it is designed for a 60-2 wheel bolted directly to the front of the hub.
