I hope this is the correct forum for this. I need some help with some weird random issues with my MK3 GTI. Recently my aftermarket head unit has been cutting in and out. So this evening I removed it and installed the OEM stereo I had collecting dust. I removed the radio with minimal trouble and got the OEM one in. The OEM unit worked perfectly but now several things are happening. Here is where everything went wonky.

    1- no interior lights
2- no power to the cluster when the car is off, when the car is on it works fine.
3- no power to the radio once the key is removed, I have to turn it on and enter the security code to get it to work. However it's retaining my radio presets.
    4- sunroof stopped working
5- central locking system stopped working and the alarm seems to be touchy when I lock the drivers door.
6- the cluster says the hatch is open when it's not.

I did notice a blue ended wire harness not plugged into anything that I dont recall seeing before. However it has been 7-8 years since I had the dash open to install this head unit. I took some pics and included them below. I pulled the cluster to get a better view to see if the blue plug got pulled from somewhere but I couldn't tell where it was suppose to be.

    car off

ignition on - notice the hatch open light.

check the fuse for radio, and central locking system, .....my jetta did that till i fixed the headlight harness,it gets cut thru buy the radiator fans,i would lock doors and when alarm horn honked it would short out and do the same thing, i had a short in the hood switch that would do that,i would follow the wires from the radio make sure they didnt short out on the brackets behind the dash when u yanked out the radio, theres not much room to pull the harness out

check your tail lights too, if all those are out then it would be your tail fuse, for me it took out all interior lights except the dome light and the clock light, but that was in a toyota, only thing that will really help is checking the fuses under your dash

When my ignition coil randomly went out, all the gauges looked like I traveled through the Bermuda Triangle. They just went apesiht and left me stranded at the intersection. Car would crank and crank but would not fire. Took me a week to figure it out. Just a thought.

thanks for the replies, the issue was the 15a convenience fuse. replaced it and all was good once again.
