Thread: newbie here with a mkII question

  1. 08-02-2012 01:57 AM #1
I've recently bought an 88 golf 8v and its turning out to be more of a project than I thought so this is probably the first of many questions I'll have for you, world. Question being: when starting my car i need to give it gas in order for it to start and then need to keep giving it gas for a few seconds til it calms down and decides it can run on its own. What is causing it to do this and how would I go about fixing it?

Same problem with my 85 gti. One of 2 things or both are possible on this would be the cold start injector and the cold start thermol time switch. Both are fairly easy to diagnose and easy to fix but can be costly for such a simple little part.
