Thread: Clutch replacement.

  1. 08-02-2012 10:17 AM #1
What's up guys. I'm getting 06' GLI, but at the moment the car doesn't run. It turns on perfectly, but when you press the clutch and throw it in gear the car doesn't move. It seems as if the clutch is stuck. Should i just go ahead and order another clutch from ESC or just tow it to a shop. And i'm pretty mechanically saavy, should i just do it myself or just take it to a shop?

Thanks for your help guys in advance!

I'd say either pressure plate or throw out bearing. You may be better off in the long run taking it to your shop, but if you have a spare vehicle you could have a look at it if you got time and tools....

If you have the time and parts I would say do it yourself, the work isn't all too bad. The hardest part is remembering which connectors go where when done, so just mark them with tape. Since you can pull the entire bumper support off and pull your engine straight out of the front once you have it out swapping the clutch takes about 20 minutes if that. I would say if you have a few buddies and a Saturday off you could tackle the entire job. If you have any technical questions PM me.

i know this is old, buuuuttt
if you can have the engine running and put it "in gear" you should hear horrible grinding or stalling or it just shouldnt go into gear.(if your clutch or release fork or whatever is bad)
makes me think your linkage is fudged up....
