Thread: Done with JP Mogan Waste, suggest me a bank?

I just need a bank w/ low fees. Should I just go w/ a local savings bank? I don't keep more than $2 grand in the bank, but would like to be able to do online bill pay.

If you're willing to switch anyway, consider a local credit union. As long as they are part of an ATM network, like STAR network ATMs, you can always get cash wherever you need to. Credit Unions are by definition non-profit and confined to not cross state lines (to my understanding of the law) so legally they should never be scamming customers for profits nor become too big to fail.

Gonna check out, {no pun intended}, the credit unions near me. Can you join if you have a white collar job typically?

Each one has their own membership rules. Like here in Arizona some are closed to anyone but state employees, others are for members of a specific group of companies (like a grocery store chain), others are for students and parents/children of students of a particular school district, etc. Then the "general" credit unions have membership requirements like "Must currently be a resident of Arizona" or Open to all residents of ______ county, which is the county the CU has branches in.

probably. but as AZ said, they might have specific rules to join.

    i am a member at two CU's.
one for WA state school employees, i qualified because my cousin was a member.
one for boeing employees, thanks sis... BUT becu now no longer cares if you are a boeing emp or not.

just go check some CU's out online and see who will allow you to join and has billpay (both of mine do).

don't forget. anyone can join PenFed CU for a $15-20 donation.

My CU is a joke if you want to do anything online with them, ATMs are a major PITA too. They have decent rates but I wouldn't consider using them for daily needs. I think I'm the only one here but BofA has always been exceedingly easy to use and deal with, online, in person, over the phone.
they're steppin' on my rhythm and they're stealin' all my lines

    +1 for a good CU.

Mine is so good, I kept them on even when I moved from MA --> OR. I haven't been in a physical branch of theirs in 8+yrs.

I have a credit union and do all my "banking" online with no problems whatsoever. I can even use a different credit union to deposit money in my account if I need to.
