2010 Sunroof Troubles in Hot Weather

Hi - had my sunroof completely replaced last summer - in hot weather something is expanding and the rails bind up with lots of nasty squeaking noises - hot weather here again and new roof doing the same - is this a common fault - is there a tech bulletin on it - is there a proper fix - inconvenient while under warranty but at 10 hrs labour plus parts not something i want to deal with post warranty? Our '12 JSW sunroof broke at 2,700 miles - they had to replace the entire assembly, had our car for a week.

It happened on a 90+ degree day, so perhaps heat is doing something?

I just noticed my pano roof has no grease on it. Both my 02 JSW and 05 Passat wagon both had lots of grease on their rails.

definitely make sure the rails are well lubed..

Noticed the same thing, Mentioned it when I went in for my oil change, I guess they lubed it up cause it stopped. Didn't charge me anything.

My sunshade stopped working at 70k and my roof is starting to make noises despite them being properly lubed. My theory is that the car does so much twisting up there (sounds like a wooden ship entering driveways) and that any resistance on that motor will burn it up quickly.

Sad to say, but I try to only use the pano when it's a very nice day out.

Had my '12 w/ pano for a year and no problems with leaks or squeaks(fingers crossed)AND it's been DANG hot here in the Savannah area. Next service, 20k, may have them check on lubing the rails. I think that on either the 20 or 30k service they are supposed to clean/clear the drain lines and lube. Have to check the manual.

The roof on my 09 was sticking a bit, and it scared me with all the problems I had read about on here.

I busted out a tub of waterproof grease (I use this on my dirtbike bearings which see way more harsh use than the pano roof) and lubed it up.

Problem solved for now, and that grease should last a LONG time.

I have lubed ours up and will again after the summer and I remove my extra sunshade between the worthless "shade" as in AZ it's worthless so we don't use the Pano all summer.

I also should say, I lubed the joints as well as the track.

I pressed the dealer on this and they did lube it before I took delivery (CPO car) with white lithium grease. They used a little but probably not enough.

I use the waterproof stuff on dirtbike suspension joints that see water, mud, and pressure washer use sometimes. Way harsher environment than pano roof tracks that sit in a dry car and slide open a few times a week, whichi s probably why it works so well.
