Did you run the Throttle Body Alignment?
#1
Shortly after I went stage II I started getting this code. It comes and goes for no particular reason. Current mods are APR stage II, APR intake and APR downpipe. I also have a boost gauge and forge dv spacer (getting removed this weekend).
20K miles
A little research yielded this from Ross-Tech Wiki.
"16452/P0068/000104 - MAP/MAF <-> Throttle Position Correlation
Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active
Possible Causes
Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70/MAF) or Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71/MAP) faulty
Dirty throttle body.
Vacuum leak.
Possible Solutions
Check Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70/MAF) or Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71/MAP)
Clean Throttle Body and perform Throttle Body Alignment (TBA).
Check intake system for leaks and un-metered air.
This includes Intake Manifold Runner(s) and Intake Manifold Runner position sensor(s) when applicable.
"
I cleaned the MAF and cleared the code and it keeps coming back then going away for a day or 2 then coming back. I guess I will try and clean the TB this weekend, I just find it hard to believe it would be causing a problem after only 20k.
Has anyone had this problem before / how did they fix it ?
What is the best way to check for vacuum leaks on these engines ?
Thanks!

I tried to run it via the cruise control stock but I'm not sure if it worked.
I thought they did a tba on every start up .. ?
I seafoamed it today and it seems much more peppy but the cel returned after 30~ miles.
I guess I will have to take the tb off and clean it.
I was wondering if the forge dv spacer could cause any issues with the maf / map since the extra boost is blown out rather than recirculated.
Thanks,

Any access to a Ross Tech cable? VSDC can run TBA.

no, is that the only way to do it ? When I do it with the apr program should anything happen to confirm it worked ?
Maybe it's time to invest in the vagcom. I think vcds is windows only so I'll have to spool up a vm to run it on my MacBookPro -_-
Thanks,

Well from what I understand the newer TSI motors have an automatic TBA that occurs during certain cycles of on/off. I've heard my car doing it. However APR and the shop that flashed me when I was having issues told me to use the vagcom to realign.
I believe once you select the TBA program, it'll flash on the dash quickly and that's the end of it. Similar to if you selected the fault clear or lock out option.
One upside to the ross tech system for TBA is you can see the TBA data - it shows you how off it is, real time info as it's realigning, etc.
I personally was on the fence about the full featured cable but it's paid for itself already just in diagnosis and logging.
You wouldn't be the first person to have intake manifold issues though. Who did the install of your stage 2? I'm sure you can get help or a quick ross tech TBA through them. @ 20k miles the car should be under warranty still unless you've been flagged due to your mods.
You may also want to check the vagcom cable thread to see if anyone is local to you that wouldn't mind scanning and TBA for you. It's a 5 minute job. See here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-location-here!

I got stage 2 done at eastside motoring in Waltham MA.
I'll give them a call and see if they can do it.
I haven't been to the dealer since 10K, I changed the oil myself at 15K. Not sure how they will react to the CEL with the CAI and downpipe.

Hit or miss - you could be part of the TD1 campaign crowd or walk away without any issues. Yea, I think the shop who did the original work should be stop #1. I'm sure they'd run a diagnosis for you or be willing to do a TBA real quick. Or I would hope so.

If you get flagged for TD1 do they just refuse any warranty work or void your warranty ?
That would just force me to go K04.
#10
So the law is that your warranty cannot be denied simply due to modifications however many dealerships will threaten or deny the work. Technically they have to prove that the modifications caused the problem but most people do not have the cash, time, or access to a lawyer to fight in court so they go unchallenged.

I think your first stop or call to the shop is a good start. It may be something simple they fix in no time flat. Have you emailed APR to get their thoughts? They have great customer service and I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking 5 minutes to reply to your error codes based on your modifications.

Sitting in the waiting room at the stealership ... conveniently the CEL went away this morning, I'm sure it will be back as soon as I drive off the lot.
Also could not get the security lock out to work this morning, probably should of tested it a little earlier. Is it usually program 3 ? My CEL only blinks up to two times when switching.
We'll see what they say about the APR DP, intake and boost gauge -_- ... at least I got to take out the DV spacer.
#12
The lockout is engaged differently than the map selection. Also depends on the features you have.
Good luck. Even if the CEL went out the codes should be stored.

They said they could not find any stored codes but the CEL has stayed off since I took out the DV spacer : )
The dealership service was also real nice, the guy working on my car loved the mods and wanted to know more about them lol.
Picked up some chrome exhaust tips for 40$, they added a real nice touch.
Hope fully the CEL stays off, thanks for all the help !

Thanks for this thread .. i have this exact same setup on a '11 Tiguan and with the CELs being so random, could not figure out what the cause was.. im going to remove the forge DV valve asap![]()

My CEL did come back on a few days ago, it's off again but I'm sure it will be back.
Dealer says they can't do anything unless it's on when I bring it to them, even though I took a picture of the code on my OBDII scanner. Maybe it's time to invest in a VAG-COM.
#16
Did you try cleaning the APR Carbonio filter and MAF ? That was my initial diagnosis and I am planning to do it this weekend.
#17
Do you have this kinda hesitation when accelerating??
It's not frequent for me but it feels like the throttle is variying on its own .. this guy fixed it by removing the MAF and resetting it.

sometimes I feel like a little hesitation, almost like the boost let off for a second. It still pulls pretty hard though. The original code says it could be the MAF or MAP, I took the MAF out and cleaned it months ago to no avail. How do you reset the MAF? Just unplug it and drive with it until it throws a CEL ?
#20
I'm going to try disconnecting the battery this weekend first , then try the running at idle without the MAF if the battery reset doesn't fix it.
#21
I called it a 'reset' because that seemed to describe it well, its not a proper procedure or anything. Yip, all i did was unplug the maf and drive until the CEL came on. I also pushed down on all the coil packs to make sure they seated properly, so it could've been that as well
#22
You have an unmetered air leak.
I went through this already. Take it to a shop and have them do a smoke test.
My first guess the boost gadge you installed.
#23
Thanks arcorl, I will check for this after work today.
In other news, my EPC light came on while I was on the highway yesterday with a message saying something "like service engine now!". Car went into limp mode, made 0 boost and wouldn't rev over 3K. Limped it straight to the dealer and it looked like the HPFP crapped out.
Service said they put in a new one that it was a new revision ... I thought they had this figured out by 2012. Anyways this seems like an isolated problem and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the P0068.
#25
Yea, It keeps coming and going in no particular pattern. Where was your boost leak ?
