Figured I might as well make a thread about the car. Not breaking any ground here, not going to be the lowest or most aggressive fitment, just a car that can be used every day but look damn good doing it.

    History

Rewind to Feb of 2010. Myself and my girlfriend (at the time) were moving to Boston in July of 2010, and her 99 Monte Carlo was taking a dump. My car was not coming with us, because it had been parked for almost a year since I had recently lost my license for stupidity when I was younger that had caught up to me(long story). So she needed a car that we could bring with us and not worry about. Looked at everything from Civics, to Mazda 3s, to Toyotas. Always been a euro fan, but we thought that a VW was going to be out of our price range. Swung by anyway, looked at the Golfs, she fell in love, and they were do-able. Ended up with a CW 2-door Golf 2.5 5speed with cold weather and sunroof.

Had some fun with it, purchased a set of Classix and H&R Race springs, and it was droppedon wheel with about 700 miles on the odo. This is what it looked like..

Then in May of 2010, we went on a charity car cruise with about 300+ cars. We had been going on this cruise for years, but this year nearly triple the cars that normally show up showed up. This resulted in a lot of stupidity, and without making a long story of it, a bike crashed in front of a large group on the highway, and cause a multi car wreck that we were involved in. The CW Golf was totaled as a result.

Like I said, car was deemed a total loss (barely). With the insurance money, we were able to get into the exact same car, just Blue Graphite Metallic. Then we moved to Boston, and money for mods was going into money for living. So for the last 2 years, the car has looked like this (with Classix, then back on the steelies.)

    Current/Future

In the last few months, she has started to get the bug to put some parts on the car again. Decided this time, we are going to do it right. No OEM wheels, no springs. So over the month of July, we acquired a set of SoloWerks coilovers, and we were lucky enough to score a set of wheels from a local friend. The wheels are WagenWheels WW1s in 18x8.5 ET45 and 18x9.5 ET45 with Falken 512s 215/40 and 225/40. Previous owner stripped the clear off the lips and polished them to a shine.

I removed the rivets/bolts/whatever you want to call them, and by her request they were painted purple. Also got the suitcase muffler removed as well, just to give it a little extra tone. The car was put together last Wednesday, just in time for Wolfsgart this past weekend in VT. I only have ****ty instagram pictures right now, but will be going out to take actual pictures of it this weekend.

Night we finished the car. Reverse rake is because the back is loaded with stock wheels/parts

    Next day

    At Wolfsgart

Helpers were left in on the coils, as well as the rear perches. The car is low enough to pull off the wheels, but still livable as an everyday car and it is my fiances, not mine. Passenger rear 1/4 is already ****ed up, but not too bad.

After Wolfsgart, I put in the leather MFSW we bought that weekend, looking to pair it with some sort of knob/boot soon. Carbonio should be in tomorrow, and an RCD-510 should be here next week.

Ill put any updates in this thread. Woo.

I hate the wheel arches on these things. Look at the roof? raked fine. Look at the rockers? raked fine. Look at the wheel arches? ZOMG LOOK AT THE REVERSE RAKE.

    Thanks Volkswagen.

Proud owner of a new-to-me used 2010 BGM Golf 2.5L here!

I was thinking about buying 18" wheels next warm season and coilovers to match. Care to share more on how the ride is with the 18s with the Solo-Werks set? I'm hoping to decrease some of the body roll while maintaining a decent ride, nothing crazy. And I usually drive like a grandma. Do you guys notice any mileage difference?

My friend is trying to steer me away from these "cheap" sets but seeing other people with these gives me hope for a very affordable set.

Honestly, everything I read about the Solowerks is true.affordable, yet still livable and best bang for the buck.

Our roads up here suck balls, but the ride is still good. obviously its a lot stiffer over bumps/bridge expansions, but what coilover isnt? The setup we have now is great, and has room to go alot lower.

Its funny, I never seen anyone post anything about BGM cars on here, I make a thread and two pop up. When we first got the car, we hated the color. We liked the CW so much more. but now that we have some parts on this one, Im starting to appreciate the BGM a lot more. Especially when its freshly washed/waxed.

BGM is a classy, subtle color that will age well. And it looks fantastic when it's all washed/waxed.

I think we liked the CW better, because the black of the grilles and headlights stood out more. And It was easier to get clean. Like I said though, now that the car is sitting closer to where we want it, Im liking the color more and more.

I also like that nearly noone has it. Like every Mk6 that is modded is White, red, shadow blue or black.

Given any thought to colour matching the sidemarkers?

I havent really talked to her about it (again, its her car I just play with it) but Im not sure what she would think. Ive actually always been a fan of amber sidemarkers, Idk why. We will see though.

This came in yesterday, probably putting it in tonight. Also should be picking up a Beetle engine cover from a friend tonight, not sure what we want to do with it though. She was talking about color matching it to the purple bolts on the wheels, but Im worried it will be too much purple. We shall see.

Intake and Beetle engine cover is all in the car. Milage seems to have gone up a bit, throttle response and pull is much better on the butt dyno, and the sound is awesome. Most likely painting the engine cover tonight.

New radio went in today as well. Picked up a RCD-510 last week for $300. Couldnt pass it up for the price. Ended up needing an ant. adapter, but the Aux input in the center console works perfect, no re-pinning required. Still need to vagcom it and activate Bluetooth audio, but that is just added to the long list of stupid **** we need to do when we get ahold of a vagcom.

    Old, installing, new.

Went out to move the car this morning (street sweeping) and found this.

After wanting to punch everything around me for about 10 minutes, brought it to the car wash and got everything off, only to reveal this...

Those are all tiny chips from where the egg hit the car.

Needless to say, Im livid. Still. I hate people.

The car already wasnt perfect, but the frustrating thing is, every mark on the car was something that was out of our control.

-Drivers rear corner of the bumper got hit by an inconsiderate ******* pulling out of a spot behind us. Hit and run. (You can see the damage from this in the first picture.)

-small dent on hood from a guy that was pissed we got to a parking spot before he did. Came out the next morning to a mcdonalds milkshake on the hood.

-dents on the roof from insane acorns we had last year

    -now this.

We try to take care of the car as best as possible, and peoples lack of respect ruin it. Just beyond infuriating. I cannot wait to move back to NH and have a driveway again.

The lack of respect for volkswagens is pathetic. Hence why I park my R as far away as I can so no one is around to damage it.

Car looks great, but thanks for the info. Not moving to that area. Don't want sh!t thrown at my car regularly. Try to stop pissing people off. Come on man. I did have someone throw an egg from the opposite direction. Don't have that car anymore. It was around a college area in the winter when kids don't have anything better to do. Had a similar looking mark. I feel your pain.

Been a bit since any updates. Car has remained basically how it was in those pictures up until about this weekend. Brought the fronts down all the way (helpers still in) and thats about it.

    Then we went to H2oi.

Decided to take advantage of the decent prices on things, and bought some new parts for it.

First up was a europlate, which isnt too big of a deal. Been something we wanted to do for awhile to fill in the spot for it on the bumper. She really wanted a WOB Wolfsburg plate, but it was tough finding them. So we just had one custom made at the show. The numbers after the WOB is our anniversary (best 5 numbers I could come up with).

Then, there was a decent deal on some replica LED R tails from NGP Racing. After some thinking about it, she decided to bite the bullet and get them. They are made by DEPO, and the build quality seems pretty damn legit. They were also plug and play, no coding required. We are very happy with the purchase.

Also on a smaller note, had a buddy cut some purple and silver BBS vinyls for the center caps. I gave him the wrong measurements so they are too small. Gonna re-do them this winter. Obviously I know they are actual BBS wheels, but we were sick of looking at blank chrome caps.
