Can you guys point me towards what I need to tow a Miata with my JSW TDI?

What hitch would you guys use?

Where can I get a trailer for it?

I assume a Miata and a basic trailer is tow-able.

Any upgrades I should do to handle the stress?

that seems like a lot of weight behind a JSW.

For the manual I think they say 1000lbs max, 0 for the Auto, and 200lbs max tongue weight if you do tow.

Thanks for posting that. Weird they have a 5MT for the 170hp engine, which makes me wonder if there is actually a difference or if it is just the power output. I will be APR Stage I with my 6MT. I will also have Hawk HPS Pads installed. Or maybe it is a gearing issue.

So I wonder if I can tow 2000 lbs if the trailer has breaks.

Probably a vehicle with a higher towing capacity.

    Zing!!!

Yeah it is looking that way. For some reason I swore the JSW could tow about 3,000 lbs. I was looking for hitches, but I could only find lower class ones.

I'm going to investigate on vw.de.

    Official VW.de numbers!

3295.91 lbs is the first number, it got cut out for some reason.

My take is that the 5MT is cheaper to make and the 2.5L JSW is aimed at a lower price point.

Sorry what I meant was the 2.5L with the 5MT has a higher towing capacity than the TDI with a 6MT.

That extra cylinder makes a world of difference.

I can't believe nobody said "a Miata to tow."

We have an original NA (1990). Great car. When we got it, our DDs were Mk II GLIs. The Miata couldn't have been more different.

    Pr0n for gear heads.

    http://www.bri-mar.com/trailerdetail...&categorysid=4

^ 1660 lbs. My brother has this one.

+ 2200 lbs for the car and gear.

    = 3860 lbs.

    DIY electric braked trailer!!

    Parts $2,000
    Weight 750 lbs.
    Car and gear 2200 lbs

    = 2950 lbs.

    That might make it do-able.

GTI brake swap, high-end fluids, DPF delete tune, rear seat removal, empty interior minus gear...

I have a six speed manual, but technically the DSG is tougher than the 6MT. I didn't say more reliable.

In Europe you see 1.4 tsi Golf's pulling caravans, etc.

So I would say yes, especially if you upgrade the brakes and brake fluid.

I translated it above. Same order, slightly, slightly different weights, but close enough.

Unbraked trailer is lower for the DSG.

I have a 2010 TDI 6MT and i have towed a 5x8 uhaul trailer enclosed with over 1000 pounds of stuff in it from WA state to NC. It pulled up the hills great and even stopped ok. lol Pulling a car that weight would be doable with my set up but... Stopping is another issue. i tow random stuff with my car like 1500 lbs of rubble and power is never the issue its the stopping. if the trailer had power brakes and you had a brake controller then it would probably be ok. I have the Westfalia hitch not the cheap american made one and it is solid as a rock monkey!!!! Hope this helps.

Brakes will be upgraded, trailer will be braked, and the actual weight is more like 3,000 lbs.

I was thinking about going with the air bag helpers in the rear. I have installed air bag setups, like Air Lift before.
