Thread: Front end clacking noise (metal on metal)

'03 Jetta GLI. Had ECS stage 3 suspension refresh kit installed. After this, the following noise appeared, which didn't exist before the parts refresh:

Any clues? So far guesses are swaybar related or strut mounting plate. The top nuts appear to be tight.

I had a issue like this a few years back after I install new front Hawk brake pads on my GLI. I racked my brain on the cause and cure. I only heard the sound when I hit bumps but could not be heard when I applied the brakes. Turned out that the brake pad shim either fell out or was not installed and the pads were rattling inside the caliper when I hit bumps and was not on the brakes. Thats **** drove me NUTS!!!

sounds bad but heard alot of wind noise tho sounds like a bad strut tho if not that id check the strut mount it could be a bad bearing on the shock itself i had that problem sounds close

did you replace all the one time use stretch bolts?

one time when i dropped my subframe i did not get a bolt completely secure, it kinda sounded like what you have on the clip.
