I'm getting ready to purchase the 2012 Passat VR6 SEL Premium and I've gone back and fourth on the rear spoiler. Should I get it or should I pass on it? Would love to know your thought on this.

Well on the one side it looks great,
On the other side I feel it's just cosmetic as against functional (unless you do a lot of freeway driving)
Not wanting to be a ""spoiler"" just get it...you kno' you really want 2..

Save the $375, it's useless and in my opinion, very unattractive. For me it's a deal breaker, if the car has a spoiler, (any car) no sale.

    Just my thought.

I really like the look of the spoiler, hence why my car has one

Look at pictures. If you like it get one, if you don't don't. It's easily installed after the fact.

Thank you for this common sense answer. These kinds of questions always make me wonder if the OP would ask what color his wife's hair should be too. It's strictly an aesthetic item; functionality has to be questionable on a family sedan that will be driven at or around 67 mph by someone who thinks they're in a hurry, but will have a coffee in one hand and a phone in the other (don't snicker, look around you the next time you're surrounded by these people on the highway on your way to work). So.... look at it (either on paper or in the flesh), and decide if you like it. Make sense?

Makes perfect sense. Thanks. Now...more importantly, what color should my wife's hair be?

I did the spoiler/no spoiler debate when I bought my car. I couldn't find any pictures of cars with the spoiler that showed the spoiler well enough to make a decision. I visited 6 different dealers, none of the cars on any of the lots had a spoiler on them. Decided to order car without spoiler, see how I like the car, see if I can find a car with a spoiler and see what it looks like in person. Easy enough to be added afterwards, and it can be added for about $200.00, painted, if you search around. After almost 4 months of looking, I have yet to see a car with a spoiler.

I'm waiting for an aftermarket one. This is no F40 but the factory is way too small for my taste. Think M3 style.
Yes I get most of you are on the less is more camp. Nothing wrong with that either.

To my suprise they included a rear lip spoiler on my passat se tdi--Very understated I must say--Its the perfect size. You wouldn't really notice it unless you were five feet near my car. The understatedness of said lip spoiler compliments the entire look of the car. It becomes whole.

It doesn't however, I think its up to the dealer to "incentivize" the car packages as they see fit. The SE I test drove had the lip spoiler. The SE I got [black] didn't come with it.

Also, I want to see the Atlantic Blue hair pics

Just went up to check/look at my window sticker that came on the car.... YUP! Extra charge option $375.00 (I think) for a rear lip spoiler. Dang, that's a bundle for that little strip of plastic with matching paint!

I bought mine "Off the Lot" - didn't order it.

I have an SE and plan on getting a spoiler eventually. I like the lines of the Passat I feel the factory spoiler continues those lines instead of the trunk just curving down.

I like the spoiler. Hewever there is no way I'll pay 375 $ or even 200 $ for that. Invest in full size tire for the trunk instead

The Stealership called me today, they said that the paint job costs $150, and alltogether with the part itself valued at $160, painted and labor installed they want $475. I told them to shove it and I'll just go pick up the part and get it painted for $50 at a body shop, get some 3M double adhesive tape and slap that sucker on my trunk.

    Will post pics when done.

$140.00 plus $12.18 shipping to contiguous US.. In this case it may be best to pay the $7.82 for immediate gratification to get it from the dealership.
