How does one find jobs overseas? Is it difficult to find work as an american in Europe, Asia, South America? Just curious. Wife is feeling stuck and we are just throwing ideas around.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

I think you are talking about finding a job abroad, not transferring with your current employer. If so, you need to keep in mind it is tough everywhere now, unless you(your wife) have a good skills, which are in high demand.

I would google career sites abroad, see what positions available, put your resume. But keep in mind there is a chance you will need work permit/visa, i.e. it is not like you find a job, go across the pond and start working.

    Good luck.
I am looking for a job in Transportation, Logistics, Distribution or International Trade. Analysis, Planning, Operations.

EU labor laws are very strict. Basically, an employer has to prove they can't fill the position with an EU-citizen before hiring a non-EU citizen.

It's the same with Switzerland. You must have the visa before being able to start work.

If you're interested in CH, a good webpage / forum is

It's not impossible, but difficult. However, it's the best place in the world to live.

i transferred with my company. other people i know in the same field went through head hunters/recruiters.

this is for a very in-demand industry right now.

finance is also common, as is anything in politics which is much much more niche.

for the less-professional capacities there is the standard au pair/teaching trades.

in summary i would say in general it is very difficult for the 'average' person to find a gig overseas due to the complexities and cost associated with visas, relocation, expat pay, etc

My wife and I have been kicking around this idea as well, just fed up with the BS in the states. I've signed up with a variety of differernt country sponsored employment sites. Something pops up and I get sent an email. Most of the countries we've been looking at will help you with all immigration issues as long as you've got something they want. Everything that I'm finding tends to be either medical or IT related, just like here in the states. Find a country you want to live in, go to their main page (they've all got one), and there are links for employment, immigration, etc. But it's like someone else said, everyone is having issues now, not just the U.S.
